    Our seas get an estimated 8 million tonnes of plastic every year.

    What is pollution in the ocean?

    Chemicals and debris, the majority of which originates on land and is dumped or blown into the
    water, make up marine pollution.

    Marine pollution's root causes

    Marine creatures including whales, dolphins, seals, and sea otters regularly perish in oil spills.

    Marine garbage is human-made rubbish that has been unintentionally or intentionally dumped into
    an ocean or sea.

    Impact of marine plastic pollution on:

     The Environment

    Chlorinated plastic has the potential to leak dangerous chemicals into the soil around it. These
    chemicals can then seep into nearby water sources, including groundwater, and the environment.

     Food And Wellbeing

    In addition to being recognised to be endocrine disruptors and carcinogens, a number of the


    chemicals employed in the manufacture of plastic products can cause developmental, reproductive,
    neurological, and immunological issues in both people and wildlife.

     Tourism

    According to the study, the amount of marine debris in beaches has tripled in certain coastal
    regions will reduce the number of days that people spend there.

     Global Warming
    850 million metric tonnes of greenhouse gases would be released into the environment as a result
    of the manufacture and combustion of plastic.
