OVERVIEW:

This is a study of the historical roots of law from Roman times, the schools of legal
thought that spurred the growth and development of law, and the primordial purpose of law and
legal education. It also examines the fundamental issues in the philosophy of law, including the
nature and content of law, its relation to morality, theories of legal interpretation, and the
obligation to obey the law, as well as philosophical issues and problems associated with
punishment and responsibility, liberty, and legal ethics.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the course, the students are expected to :

 Demonstrate an ability to read carefully, speak clearly, think critically, and write
persuasively about the nature of law and its relationship to other norms.

 Critically engage a variety of ideas and worldviews from both historical and
contemporary sources so as to formulate reflective and informed moral, ethical, and
legal judgments.

TEACHING METHODOLOGIES:

1. Topics or lessons, class activities, or any updates will be posted regularly on the official
class chatroom. Live lectures and class discussions will be conducted during the official
class schedule via online (Zoom or Microsoft Teams). 

2. Chapter readings from the main reference material and/or case readings to strengthen
students’ knowledge on a particular course topic. Take-home exercises will also be
conducted for reinforcement of the technical aspects of the different course topics

3. Coaching and mentoring on a particular technical course topic and techniques in


answering bar questions. 

4. Summative assessments like section quizzes or self-tests after lectures/discussions and


comprehensive exams to test students’ overall understanding of the course contents.

 
GRADING SYSTEM:

The final grade shall be computed based on the following:

Class Participation - 30%


(Quizzes, recitations, group discussions, reports, and other learning activities)

Midterm Examination - 30%

Final Examination - 40%

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Quizzes and Examinations. Quizzes and examinations will include: short quizzes (self-
tests) and long exams (midterms and finals).

2. Report/s (Oral and/or Written). Students shall be tasked to report (oral and/or written),
by group or individual, to highlight the knowledge/understanding of students to a particular
banking concept/theory/issue.

3. Attendance and Class Participation. There will be corresponding grades for


attendance and class participation, including recitation and participation in class activities.

OTHER MATTERS: All other matters including but not limited to class attendance, classroom
behavior, dishonesty, cheating, and plagiarism shall be governed by the official policies and
guidelines issued by the school.
