PATIENT SATISFACTION WITH THE TELEMEDICINE SERVICES IN BARANGAY 5

BANTAY ILOCOS SUR

Introduction

According to WHO, Telemedicine is a term that was introduced in the 1970s and

literally means "healing from a distance" it is the use of information and communication

technology (ICT) to enhance patient outcomes by expanding access to care and

medical information. Telemedicine comes in a range of telehealth technologies such as

video conferencing, the internet, streaming media, mobile and wireless

networks, communications, as well as images with store-and-forward capabilities.

According to Orlanda (2019), telemedicine was originally developed for rural and

underserved patients, telehealth has now emerged in a wide array of healthcare

specialties in both the rural and urban setting. Telemedicine has the potential to

increase access and make healthcare services more convenient for certain types of

patient groups, especially rural healthcare. Thus, with the increase in telehealth use,

makes it is imperative to maintain patient satisfaction regardless of the modality of

delivery and patient satisfaction is a key indicator of how well changes in practice and

modality meet patient expectations.

Patient satisfaction in healthcare has been linked to increased patient

participation and treatment compliance in a variety of chronic and acute care settings

circumstances (Orlando et al., 2019). To ensure that patient and provider relationship

needs are addressed, patient satisfaction and feedback are heavily considered in the

future development of telehealth or in-person services. Whether telemedicine or in-

person services is most preferred or satisfied by the patient.
