National Service Training Program (R.A. No.

9163) The prime duty of the Government is to serve and protect the people. The Government may call upon the people to defend the State and, in the fulfillment thereof, all citizens may be required, under conditions provided by law, to render personal, military or civil service. (Sec. 4, Article II, 1987 Constitution) The preservation of the State is the obligation of every citizen. (Sec. 2, Commonwealth Act No. 1,) Armed Forces of the Philippines: y Hukbong Katihan ng Pilipina 1897 (Philippine Army) y Pilipinas Hukbong Himpapawid (Philippine Air Force) y Hukbong Dagat Pilipinas (Philippine Navy) y eserve Force The Army Reserve Component; The Air Force Reserve Component; The Navy Reserve Component; The AFP-Wide Technical Reserve Component; and The Affiliated Reserves. Armed Services of the Philippines: y Philippine Coast Guard y Department of Justice National Bureau of Investigation y Philippine National Police (Service, Honor, Justice) The Mission of the Reserve Force To provide the base for the expansion of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in the event of war, invasion or rebellion; to assist in relief and rescue during disaster or calamities; to assist in socioeconomic development; and to assist in the operation and maintenance of essential government or private utilities in the furtherance of the overall mission. (Sec. 7, R.A. NATIONAL SERVICE TRAINING PROGRAM Republic Act # 9163 : The National Service Training Program (NSTP) Act of 2001 Aim: Enhance civic consciousness and defense preparedness in the youth by developing the ethics of service and patriotism while undergoing training in any of its three-program components namely: a) Reserved Office Training Corps (ROTC) -is designed to provide military training to tertiary level students in order to motivate, train, organize and mobilize them for national defense preparedness. b) Literacy Training Service (LTS) -is designed to train students to become teachers of literacy and numeracy skills to school children, out of school youth and other segments of society in need of their services. Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) -is designed to promote activities contributory to the general welfare and the betterment of life for the members of the community or the enhancement of its facilities, especially those devoted to improving health, education, environment, entrepreneurship, safety, recreation and morals of the citizenry and other social welfare services.
