NARRATIVE REPORT
(ICONs Summer Head Start: A Bridging Program to Step
Up in Literacy and Numeracy through BASA
BONANZA)
Reading is a tool a person gets information from written letters and words. A person can
read using sight or touch, such as when a vision - impaired reads Braille- method. Reading is
actually a multi- part process which takes many forms.
That is why the teachers of Malaybalay City Division with the supervision of Dr.Victoria
V. Gazo and the guidance of the EPS in English, Ma’am Rachel Valde and the EPS in Filipino,
Ma’am Ma. Concepcion Reyes supported the program of the Department of Education. A program
that can help develop the literacy and numeracy of identified learners which is the ICONs Summer
Head Start: A Bridging Program to Step Up in Literacy and Numeracy through BASA
BONANZA.
The Mapulo Elementary School teachers specifically the Grade 3 and Grade 6 advisers,
Mrs. Edeliza M. Sumbongan and Sir Jeson D. Ascarez identified 27 learners who needs to improve
their reading and mathematics skills and their attention was called and they responded
immediately. The School Reading Coordinator conducted an orientation last July 20, 2022 with
the identified learners and teachers who will facilitate the said program and by 8 o’clock in the
morning the teachers went to their respective rooms waiting the learners to arrive with their printed
activities and downloaded videos for them to use during their class.
As they conduct their lesson the School Coordinator went to each classroom to take photos
of the teacher and learners, and to assist them in case they need some things. As they go on with
their class, the learners are so enthusiastic and they had fun with their teacher as they learn the
lesson.
So during the first day of implementing the program all learners were present and very
active in participating during the discussion and of course they were given free snacks in the
morning and afternoon.
By July 21, 2022 all learners are present in the morning and during the afternoon class
some of the learners didn’t came back because of some reasons and that happens until the last day
of implementing the program and by July 27, 2022 in the afternoon which is the last day of
implementing the program in our school, Ma’am Rachel Valde went to our school to monitor and
conduct assessment to the learners, she also gave 2 radios and of course some feedbacks and
information about the program.
By July 28, 2022 the School Reading Coordinator with the help of the Mapulo Elementary
School Teachers conducted a culminating program to give recognition to the learners and of course
the teachers who facilitated the class, who sacrifice and give their time, effort and love during the
Basa Bonanza.
