Oldest Churches of Calabarzon

STA. URSULA PARISH CHURCH


YEAR: 1792
BUILT BY: FRANCISCANS
HISTORY: Franciscans established the parish in
1621 and built the church from 1792 to 1800. It has
undergone major renovation in 1853 and just
recently, the church belfry has undergone
restoration. Unlike the other churches, Sta. Ursula
Parish Church lacks ceiling, thus exposing the
wooden trusses that supports the roof, giving the
church a rustic ambiance. Sta. Ursula Parish Church is located at the heart of Binangonan
town proper.

ST. MAGDALENE CHURCH


YEAR: 1638
BUILT BY: RECOLECTOS
HISTORY: The First President of the
Philippines, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo was
baptized here in 1869.  Originally built in
1638 by 6 rich Filipino families from
Maragondon and Silang, the Church of St
Magdalene in Kawit is one of the oldest
churches in the Philippines.  The current structure was built in 1737 and had a major facelift
in 1990.  The church is administered by the Recollect Fathers.

ST. FERDINAND CATHEDRAL

GRANJA
HISTORY: St. Ferdinand Parish was
founded by Fr. Mariano Granja, the first
Parish priest of Lucena, way back March 1,
1881 then the construction of the church
itself started in 1882 and was finished by 1884. Unfortunately, the first church building was
destroyed by fire in May 24, 1887 so another church building was rebuilt in its place in
November 1887. On March 28, 1950, Pope Pius XII issued a bull Quo Aeternae Dominici

Gregis establishing the Diocese of Lucena and was expedited on May 20, 1950, and finally
on September 8, 1950, the Diocese of Lucena was canonically erected.
