Informatics 1

Informatics plays a key role in promoting evidence-based practice in nursing. It provides enhanced access to research evidence which supports high quality nursing care. Informatics systems help with operations like workforce management, finances, and quality assurance. They also aid in tasks like patient acuity assessment. For nurses to fully utilize informatics, they need training and expertise in technology. The TIGER initiative aims to establish basic to advanced informatics competency among all nurses so they can incorporate technology safely and effectively to reform healthcare practices in line with evidence and patient-centered care principles.

1.

Discuss the role of informatics in promoting evidence-based practice in

nursing.

 Applying informatics in nursing care can provide enhanced access to

evidences; it can affect the nursing care quality and support evidence-

based nursing. Information applications will provide fundamental systems

support for nursing department operations, such as workforce, financial

and quality management systems. Systems for patient classification like in

analyzing patient acuity level to determining level of care needed are

critical areas provided by informatics to support nursing functions and

manpower distribution. Evidence-based practice and using informatics

were recognized as essential competencies for healthcare professionals in

this decade to support the principles of quality healthcare. If nurses and

other healthcare workforce advance the expertise and aptitudes to access

information and studies effortless, as well as the time and anticipation to

carefully plan individualized care using the knowledge they have

accessed, the true potential of evidence-based practice and nursing

informatics could be more clearly understood.

2. Discuss informatics as a unique discipline within the profession of nursing

a. Specialization and certification

b. Educational requirements

c. Professional organizations

 In modern time’s fast-paced healthcare network, technology takes part a

vital role in learning and nursing manpower. So, it is essential to study the
role of nurses and focus on the need for suitable information technology

educational programs to incorporate with the fast changing pace of

technology. Nurses have the utmost communication with patients, and

work together with technology more often. Consuming technology should

produce an affirmative attitude in nursing efficiency. It is crucial for nurses

to be tangled in the initial proposal of organizations to improve the value of

healthcare.

 Aside from exceptional clinical nursing background, one feature which you

must work on in this field is a strong technological skill. Because of the

firm development and improvement of technology, in order to effectively

take advantage of information technology in nursing outcome and quality

of healthcare, scholastic preparation is recommended to reinforce nurses

at different levels for applying information technology in all aspects of

healthcare network.

 National advisory council on nurse education and practice talks about

nursing practice challenges; and remarks electronic health records, patient

monitoring systems, bar code medication administration, computerized

provider order entry, data capture tools, care planning tools and tele-

health; and the need to think through the nursing shortage, decreasing

medical errors, improve tracking of patient data, improve efficiency of data

collection, improve access to care and, support national surveillance

capabilities. Some are organizations who encourages nurses to utilize

information technology in healthcare field:

o The American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA). An

organization for both nurses and allied personnel committed to

nursing informatics. The organization aims to advance the field

through education, research, and practice.

o The Alliance for Nursing Informatics (ANI). This is a

collaboration of organizations, bringing together various groups that

function in nursing informatics. They provide a unified voice to

advance nursing informatics in improving the delivery of patient

care.

o American Nurses Credentialing Centre (ANCC). Functioning

under the ANA, the ANCC offers board certification in Nursing

Informatics at a basic level of knowledge and skill.

o Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society

(HIMSS). The HIMSS is a global organization focused on better

health through information and technology. It provides a variety of

professional development resources for persons working in this

area.

3. Investigate the Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform (TIGER)

initiative as it relates to healthcare informatics.

 With the initiatives of TIGER, nurses are going to be at least capable in

informatics, from uncomplicated computer abilities to advanced-level

information technology and literacy proficiency. It provides proper

foundation as nursing moves towards future. Nurses and other healthcare

members will then reform practices with the help of information technology

so that it will be uniform, evidence-based and clinically incorporated, and

strengthen the principles of a caring culture. It aims healthcare delivery to

be safer, more effective, efficient, patient-centered, timely, and equitable.
