included (a) generating a comprehensive list of candidates, (b) outlining the critical issues
that will shape a candidate's electability in the 2023 elections, (c) agreeing on the
candidates' selection criteria, including a weighting system, (d) evaluating the long list of
candidates, and (e) categorising the candidates by tier. Only the candidates in Tier 1 are
evaluated in this poll.

Challenges
NIGERIA'S 2023 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

Analysis of the survey responses shows that Nigerians are most concerned with the high
level of insecurity in Nigeria. 42% of the respondents indicated that insecurity is the most
important challenge in the country. Corruption ranked second with 18%, jobs ranked third
with 9 percent, while education ranked fourth with 8 percent of respondents stating their
dissatisfaction with the Federal Government's response to the ASUU strike.

The ranking of the key challenges remains relatively the same across responses from all
geopolitical zones. These issues would likely shape the 2023 political campaign season.
The electorate expects to hear the candidates provide pragmatic answers to these
challenges. See below for a list of the other developmental challenges.

Analysis &
Conclusion
The survey yielded interesting insights on Nigerians' preference for president.
• It is important to restate that the respondents were evenly distributed across all
geopolitical zones. Currently, Peter Obi is the most preferred candidate among more
than the required 25% of voters in more than 24 states of the federation, Atiku Abubakar
is more preferred in the Northern geopolitical zones, and Bola Ahmed Tinubu holds
sway in some South-West states but comes second in the entire region.

• Additionally, unlike previous elections, repondents to this survey indicated a strong

willingness to vote. When asked the question, “Do you plan to vote?”, 94% of the
respondents surveyed said “yes”, 2% said no, and 4% were undecided.

• Another key takeaway from this survey is that insecurity is the most important issue to
voters across all the geopolitical zones of the federation.

• Finally, while the polling result reflects the respondents who had a clear preference, it
is important to note that a significant percentage of voters (38%) remain undecided or
non-commital to a candidate and. Ultimately, this group could decide conclusively
which candidate emerges the winner of the 2023 presidential election.

Respondents' Geopolitical Regions

Respondents are from a fully randomised selection of registered voters in every local
government in Nigeria. The population of voters randomly polled from each local
government is varied to match the % contribution of that local government to the full
voter's register as published by INEC. Highest number of respondents were from the North
West followed by the South West while least respondents were from the South East.

Respondent Age Range

Almost 25% of respondents are aged between 18 and 30 years. The highest respondent
group - by a small margin - is between 41 and 50 years (29 percent). Another high
respondent group (25 percent) is in the age group of 31 to 40 years. Respondents aged 26
to 30 years made up 15 percent of the respondents.

Recent data from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) shows that over
1.2 million of the 1.73 million Nigerians that completed their registration in November 2021
are young people aged between 18 and 34 years. This age group accounts for about 22
percent of the population. This age group is critical to Nigeria's future as the country has a
median age of 18.1 years, and 76.7 percent of the population is less than 34 years.
