1. GDP is basically the amount of added value generated by all business units in a country.

Or is the total value of the final goods and services produced by all economic units. In
short, GDP is one method for calculating national income. GDP is the amount of
remuneration received by the factors of production that participate in the production
process in a country within a certain period of time. Remuneration for factors of
production in question are wages and salaries, land rent, capital interest and profits. All
before deducting income tax and direct taxes. Here, GDP includes depreciation and net
indirect taxes.
2. If we consider our daily intuition, it seems that the GDP per capita figure does not really
describe the state of the people's welfare. For example, if it is said that the average
income of a person/family in Indonesia is IDR 4.9 million per month (GDP), in fact there
are many people whose income is far below that figure. For example, the Central
Statistics Agency (BPS) still records that more than 24 million Indonesian citizens are
below the poverty line (earning less than IDR 401,220 a month). Therefore, GDP cannot
be used to measure people's welfare in absolute terms. In fact, for the creator of GDP,
Simon Kuznets, GDP is simply not available to be used as an indicator of welfare. For
him, GDP is GDP. In fact, Kuznets himself is worried that the national income balance
tool he has made, including GDP, is used as a tool to measure the level of people's
welfare. On the basis of the same considerations, several economists have recently
formulated tools other than GDP to measure the level of welfare. For example, Amartya
Sen proposed a capability instrument to measure the level of happiness of the people of
a country. Thailand and Bhutan are also listed as countries that use the Happiness Index
to measure welfare, not solely by means of GDP. In fact, Canada uses the Welfare Index
specifically to measure the success of its economic development.
