FILMS, HOUSEWORK, MONEY, WEATHER

PART 1

Are there films that we shouldn’t watch?

Yes, films that show sex and violence, promoting drug use, abortion and suicide are not good to watch. I
think everybody needs to avoid these films because they not only pollute our minds, they also don’t
benefit us in any way. I also think that minors (children below 18) do not fully understand these
concepts yet, so they need guidance from their parents or guardians if ever they intend to watch these
kinds of films.

What is your favorite housework?

I don’t think I have a favorite housework because I have tons of things to do and doing some housework
will still consume a part of my time. However, if you’d ask me about the easiest house chore, I guess it’d
be dishwashing or washing my clothes using a washing machine.

Does the weather affect your mood?

Absolutely! Extremes in weather are not good for everyone. When it is too hot, I find it hard to
concentrate on my studies. I would feel sleepy or lazy to do anything. Meanwhile, if it’s too hot, I would
be restless because I need to hydrate (drink water) often and urinate often too. So, the weather must
be comfortable in order for me to have a productive day.

Is having too much money evil?

No, it depends on how you earned the money and how you spend it too. For instance, if I earned a lot of
money because I worked for many hours, even on weekends, then, I think I deserve to spend it in
however way I want to. Similarly, if I have a lot of money and use it to make others happy like giving a
present to my siblings or helping my cousin on his tuition fees, it is alright. There is no harm in doing so.
However, if I earned a hefty amount of money from stealing or I spend my money by doing illegal
transactions, I think that’s when money becomes evil.

When was the last time you spent a lot of money?

It was last year when I booked a ticket from Manila to Davao (my hometown). I had to come home
immediately because my dad died of blood infection. He had diabetes and the doctor advised him to get
his leg amputated to prevent further infection but he refused. So, he died a few days later. It was
sudden and I didn’t have a choice because it’ll be the last time I get to see him. Although it was an
expensive flight because there were only limited flights due to the lockdown, it was all worth it.
Which do you prefer films or series?

Ideally, I’d choose watching a film over a series because I don’t have enough time to binge watch a
series. Also, I am not fond of cliffhangers. However, I would make an exception if my favorite actors are
included in it. So, it really depends on 2 factors: who are in it and how much time I have to watch it.

When is it okay to lend money?

It’s okay to lend money to someone when I have enough cash to lend and when the reason for
borrowing is valid. For example, if the person wants to borrow money in order to buy groceries,
medicines or pay school fees. If I don’t have money at that time, I will find a way for that person to get
money. Meanwhile, I would definitely not lend someone if the purpose of borrowing is for non-
essentials like buying expensive makeup, gambling or a high-end gadget. It’s not wise to splurge in the
middle of a pandemic.

How do you describe a perfect weather?

I can picture out two scenarios of a perfect weather – first, when it’s a little bit sunny but there’s a cool
breeze and the temperature is about 24-28 degrees celsius. I think that is a perfect weather to hang out
with friends. Second, when it’s drizzling outside and the weather is cool (about 18-22 degrees). It’s a
perfect time to be alone, sip a cup of hot chocolate and read a book.

PART 2

Describe the most inspiring person you have met

- Who is he/she
- Where did you meet him/her
- How did he/she inspire you
- Cite an instance when she did something that made you think
he/she is an inspiring person

I consider my grandpa (my mom’s father) as the most inspiring man I’ve ever met. He died in 2016. He’s
a pure Indonesian who fell in love with a Filipino-Spanish woman (my grandma) and never went back to
his own country. He possesses 3 qualities that I consider as inspiring : courageous, non-judgmental and a
street-smart.

My grandpa came to the Philippines when he was 30 using a raft and without any prior knowledge of
our country and our local dialect. He never went to school but he got hired as a personal assistant to a
popular lawyer in our area because of his knowledge in making boats and fishing baits. He strived to
adapt to the locals and made many friends regardless of their age, status, religion and political
affiliation. When he retired, he kept making boats and baits and sold them to fishermen. They used to
live near the sea so he had many fisherman friends. My mom would often recall how good he is with
people because he would spend time drinking with the soldiers on a Monday and the rebels on
Wednesday. Of course, I wasn’t able to distinguish the difference when I was young, but now I learned
that it’s hard to make friends with people who do not share the same perspective on politics, especially
in this country. Before he died, he managed to make a huge boat for one of his customers. And, 2 days
after his death, a fisherman passed by their gate and asked if grandpa is not busy so could make some
fishing baits for him. My aunt was teary-eyed when she responded ‘‘He’s no longer here.’’ He was 90
when he left us.
