0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 About Entrepreneur

Dato’ Haji Ramly bin Mokni is a successful entrepreneur in Malaysia. He comes from
Tanjung Piandang, Perak and was raised in Selangor. His father worked as a farmer in paddy
field while his mother is a housewife. He has sixteen siblings from two different mother.
When he was young, he had an ambition to be a doctor but his family was poor and cannot
afford him further his study. So he worked after finished his school education as a butcher in
a supermarket in Selangor. After that, he married Datin Hajjah Shalasiah binti Abdul Manap
and has three daughters and slowly build his career. Despite of that, he is not regret until now
he become a successful entrepreneur.

1.2 Career Development

Before he became an entrepreneur, he had worked as a butcher in a supermarket in

Selangor. When he was working there, he found out that those days the meat in the market is
questionable. People are worried either the meat quality, how it being process, are the meat
halal because most Malaysian people are muslim. So he got an idea to produce quality, clean
and halal food based on frozen food industry based on what people needs. Even though he is
little bit worried to produce frozen meats because at the time most Malaysian are not
commonly to eat western food such as burger. Despite of that, he still believe on what he was
doing and started to open his new business. So it was the starting point for him to expend his
frozen foods business. He used all the opportunity given wisely and convert it into a success
business.

Now he has his own company called Ramly Holdings Sdn Bhd. He becomes a
successful entrepreneur in Malaysia and well-known in frozen meat industry. He manages the
company with his beloved wife Datin Hajjah Shalasiah binti Abdul as his Executive Director
and together with his three daughters managing their family business. Dato’ Ramly Mokni is
an excellent entrepreneur and be the first to introduced the halal, quality and best frozen
meats in Malaysia. He faced many obstacles before he can established his own company.
Now, his company become a successful company when it able to achieve profits around RM
47 million a year.

2.0 BUSINESS INFORMATIOM

2.1 Business Background

Dato’ Hj Romli started his business from his apartment located in Selangor. At first,
he tried to get a loan from bank but his proposal was rejected. With a limited resources, he
used all the resources wisely to make the best frozen foods which is burger patty at that time.
So he used his own saving about RM 2000 to start his business and produce 300 pieces of
patties from his apartment. He was helped by his wife at that time and started to sell it at two
burger stall opened around Chow Kit Road. In order to promote his business, he opened two
stalls which provide western foods like burger to customers but this time he got a small loan
from the Development Bank in 1982.

The business runs progressively until he got enough capital to expand his business
into the commercial market. So he established Ramly Mokni Holdings Sdn. Bhd as the
company that provided the best frozen food meat in Malaysia currently. From a small
company it turned into big company and has envolved and grew over-time until now. The
company also has it subsidiaries which are Ramly Food Processing Sdn. Bhd, Ramly Mokni
Marketing Sdn. Bhd, Ramly Supermart Sdn. Bhd, Ramly Mokni Bakery Sdn. Bhd and Ramly
Mokni Bakery Sdn. Bhd.

2.2 Product Discription

Ramly’s products are mainly based on meats but it also produces seafood. The
products are included burger, frankfurter, nuggets, seafood, chicken, minced meat, frankfurter
and others. For Chicken Burger Grill Flavour or Beef Burger Grill Flavour, the ingredients
used are chicken and beef meat, soy protein, spices and salt, contains flavouring and
permitted food Conditioner. To make it long lasting product, it must be keep in frozen at -18
Celsius.

Pack size specification for this product is 420g with nice packaging from Ramly’s
manufacturers. The meats used must be halal not only it meat but how it was process from
beginning until it become completely ready to sell to the market. That is what Dato’ Hj.
Ramly wants, to provide a halal products which are clean and high quality to their customers
local and abroad. He is now has two food processing manufacturers at Industrical Area in
Bandar Tun Razak and Mukim Batu, Kuala Lumpur.

 All the products in the market are sold with affordable price from their customers.
The customers can get Ramly’s products almost in every shops from small to big
supermarket. It becomes the well-known products in Malaysia.

3.3 ENTREPRENEUR’S AS A SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEUR

3.1 Personal Traits

As a successful entrepreneur, Dato’ Hj. Ramly Mokni is a risk-taker person.

Working as a butcher in a supermarket make him aware about the problems face by the
Muslim consumers. The uncertain status either the frozen meats in the market is halal or not
triggering him to an idea which is to produce a halal frozen meat. He able to see the
environmental problems and the opportunity to create a business. For example, he dares to
create a new business at that time even though there are many obstacles because of the people
in Malaysian do not aware about his frozen meat and also he had only limited resource of
capital.

In addition, he also does not easily give up with the challenges before he become a
successful entrepreneur. Even though his application to make a loan had rejected by bank
Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) at first but he started his small business using his own
saving about RM 2000 to make around 300 pieces of patties from his apartment. He also felt
difficulties when to promote his new product to the customers. He keeps trying to ask a loan
and luckily he got a loan from Development Bank and from that loan he makes a capital to
enlarge his business until he succeed.

Furthermore, he is a visionary entrepreneur which has full of ambitious in doing

business. He has visions to produce halal, fresh and good quality products especially for
Muslims. Even though at first his product was undermined by the people because they
thought that local products are not capable to compete in the market. Instead of that, his
products got high demand from the customers and people love his products.

3.2 Achievements

Dato’ Hj. Ramli has achieved many award as a successful entrepreneur in Malaysia.
The founder of Ramly Mokni Holdings Sdn. Bhd himself is the first to introduce a halal
frozen food in Malaysia and create his own brand products. He has several times won the best
entrepreneurs of the year.

 He was successfully established a Malaysian company that become the proudness of
Malaysian people. He has created a lot of job employment to Malaysian people and helping
other entrepreneur to make their own income. He also become a role model to other
Bumiputra’s entrepreneur and the good example to become a great businessman.

3.3 SECRETS OF ENTREPRENEUR

As a successful entrepreneur, Dato’ Hj Ramly also faces many challenges and

obstacles through his life in order to run his business. There are a few secrets of his
successful career which that he is a enthusiasm person that always put a high efforts of what
he does and never give up even there are many challenges that could make him to give up.
For example, he had a few issues that put his into difficult situation when his products were
unwelcomed in Singapore market that could let his spirit down and also DNA issue that
imposed to him and his business.

Furthermore, he always confident and believes in himself since he want to do the

business. Nobody expected he could bring a business that no one dare to do that business due
to Malaysian preferences are not same because western food is not famous at that time.
However, he succeed to bring new food and also change the Malaysians preferences and
make other people love to eat his burger.

Next, he learned from the failures before he can succeed in his business. From
beginning, his intention to get a loan from MARA bank was rejected because they do not
believe that Malaysian will love his products. He also was undermined by many people
because they think his idea is not reasonable but now he turned all that into succeed and
proved that they are wrong.

4.0 CONCLUSION

As an entrepreneur, it is not easy to be succeed but it also not impossible to whom that
willing to put high efforts on something. That is what Dato’ Ramly Mokni has shown to us,
despite of having many difficulties he still remains work hard to make his business succeed.
It is a truly traits of a successful entrepreneur. He found his own potential and abilities to
create a successful career from a butcher become a successful entrepreneur. He proved that
he able to compete with other competitors, create his own brand which become Malaysian
choice.
