Logic AND Function
I. Objectives:
1. To be familiar with the Dual Pressure Valve or AND valve..
2. To understand the operation and use of Dual Pressure Valve or AND valve
3. To design a circuit and apply the Dual Pressure Valve or AND valve.
II. Tools/Equipment, Materials needed
TP 101 Festo Pneumatic Trainer that have the ff:
Pneumatic Compressor
Festo Aluminum Profile Simulation Board
FRL/service Unit
Manifold
Double -Acting Cylinder
3/2 way directional control valve, Push Button actuated, spring return
3/2 way directional control valve, roller actuated, spring return
5/2 way directional control valve, air actuated, spring return
5/2 way directional control valve, air actuated at both ends
Dual Pressure valve
Pneumatic Tubing
II. Pneumatic Exercise:
1. The double-acting cylinder advance when two (2) 3/2 way push button actuated valve
at different position are actuated at almost the same time. The cylinder returns when
either of the push buttons is released.
2. The double-acting cylinder advance when three (3) 3/2 way push button actuated
valve at different position are actuated at almost the same time. The cylinder returns
when either of the push buttons is released.
3. The clamping of a workpiece is to occur only when a push button is pressed and a
workpiece is present. Unclamping is to be possible only when the drill is fully up and a
second push button is actuated. Please refer to the figure.
III. Procedure:
1. Analyze the problem.
2. Draw the pneumatic circuit and let your instructor check your work.(you can draw the
circuit at the space provided below and use the symbols as a guide)
3. Identify the components needed for this problem.
4. Attach the selected components on the aluminum profile plate.
5. Test all the attached components if working properly.
6. Pipe up the circuit with the air pressure switch off.
7. Let your instructor check your work.

3. Pneumatic Control Circuit
Self Test Activity:
1. In case dual pressure valve is not available and it is needed to actuate a single-acting
cylinder using two push button valve, draw an alternative solution.
2. Metallic rods are to be cut into pieces by a cutting machine. When the pedal switch is
pressed, the machine cuts the rod. The machine returns to its initial position only if the
pedal switch is released. In order to meet safety requirement, safety guard is equipped
on the machine. Cutting can only be started if the guard is closed.
3. By pressing a push button, articles are pushed away from the gravity feed magazine
into the conveyor system. A single acting cylinder is to facilitate this. When a push
button is released, the piston rod returns to its start position. When all articles are
already pushed, the cylinder would not extend if the push button is pressed.
4. A double-acting cylinder is controlled by two 3/2 way, push button valve, (PB1 and
PB2) at different locations, PB1 is near the valve and PB2 is few meters away from
valve causing pressure drop. If the valve used is monostable with very strong spring,
what possible thing may happen and draw the solution.
Given that in Pneumatics we always have a constant level of compress air, pressing both
PB1 and PB2 will be able to actuate the valve, however there will be some delay. Since
PB1 is close to the monostable valve it will be actuated as soon as PB1 was pressed, on
the other hand PB2 is much further away from the monostable valve used to control
double-acting cylinder will have a delay since the air must fill the whole area first so that
the build-up of pressure begins and once the pressure has enough force, then that’s the
time it’ll be able to actuate the control valve.
5. What is the disadvantage of the solution in no.1 of Self-test evaluation?
The disadvantage of solution one is that PB2 depends on the output of PB1 since they
are in series, forming an And gate configuration. What it basically do is that both
pushbutton should be pressed in order for the single acting cylinder to extend.
