1.2 Type of ownership of the company and the main shareholders and their shares.
Maybank shares are widely held, with institutional shareholders dominating the ownership structure and
foreign shareholders owning more than 20% of Maybank shares.
Although the top three shareholders of Maybank account for more than half of the total paid-up share
capital, Maybank is not subject to any biased influence from these shareholders, who do not hold
management positions within the organisation. This ensures a high level of corporate governance and
permits the Group to focus on continuously building value for all its shareholders.
The existing share structure consists entirely of Ordinary Shares. There are no different classes of ordinary

2. Internship Activities
For two months, starting from 3/09/18 – 26/10/18 I did my internship with Maybank Islamic Berhad under
the Strategic Research and Reporting Department.
Most of my assignments were about research and developing power point slides according to the standard of
the bank. Plus, I helped with some of the small office events. I have mentioned about all of it in my
Internship diary, but here I am mentioning the important ones.
The first event was at 6th of September, which was preparation for Group Islamic Banking Board and
Management meeting mini offsite on the Presenters Agenda. I helped to prepare the documents with
Microsoft word and excel, checked the videos and carried out some logistic jobs.
Next was the Research about the 2018 Institute of International Finance (IIF) Annual Membership Meeting
in Bali, Indonesia. IIF events are the foremost gatherings of the international financial industry. It holds
events around the world that brings senior industry leaders together with key policymakers to provide the
membership with a rich and engaging experience as well as high level networking opportunities. I even
prepared the conference pack of the event using the power point which contains the information about the
delegates attending the event. The event was on 11th of October.
I assisted in developing PowerPoint slides according to the standard of the company and learned it gradually.
Mostly, I had to summarize the contents and information and make it presentable for others. It also includes
finding Islamic Finance news for the weekly i-news, which is a weekly news for all the maybankers to know
about the updates of the Islamic finance and about the competitor banks.
During my internship, there was an event of Maybank Islamic Global Corporate Responsibility Day 2018,
where I helped in cleaning and painting the walls of the Mosque (Surau) area at PPR, Batu Muda, Jalan
Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur.
There was also a visitation from University of St Gallen. University of St Gallen is conducting Business
Study Missions 2018 to Malaysia for the new batch of students. Since one of the specialty of Malaysia is
the Islamic finance, Maybank Islamic was chosen as one of the place to visit being the top Islamic bank in
Malaysia. On that event, I also helped in taking photos, logistic and make sure that everything is in order.
3. An Assessment of the Internship
As it was a short experience of only two months, there were only some responsibilities given
to me during the internship period. But, I am mentioning about the crucial ones
The most important responsibility was to research about the competitor banks and to find out
the correct information and even the numbers of their assets and profits must be correct as it
was to be presented internationally in different events by the Maybank directors and
managers. Any wrong information can bring a negative impression for the company.
Secondly, I had to manage some office events and had the responsibility to make sure it runs
smoothly, had to do some logistic works and as well as the prevent documentations and
itinerary.
The influence that my internship will definitely have on my future career plan is to develop
interpersonal skills, team values, responsibility and accountability.
3.4 The Correlation of my Internship activities with my classroom knowledge
Many of my internship activities that I carried out during my internship are correlated with
the subjects that I learned at my class. As I have done mostly research and reporting during
my internship, the subjects that can relate with the activities are: Communication Research,
Communication Scholarship, News Reporting, Public Relation and copy writing.
For developing PowerPoint slides, I can relate mostly with Presentation skills and Electronic
publishing as they taught me to be more creative with my slides. And working on Microsoft
office, excel etc. more or less every subjects were helpful.
During my event management activities, the subjects that I can relate are: Decision making
skills, Public relation and mostly the Final year project subject.
4. Conclusion
Overall, it was a very pleasant experience with lots of things to learn in these two months. It
showed me the difference between learning in theory and in practical. But, I wish if the
duration was more so, that I could have the chance to learn more. I would like to visit
Maybank Islamic again in near future to learn the other skills that I couldn’t learn. This
journey made me more interested and excited to get involved in a real professional life after
graduation.
