Dear Raider Families,

As I have previously shared, we have had two teams working non-stop to find solutions to our transportation
challenges; one team works on the day-to-day operations of bus routing and staffing, while the other team has been
working on longer-term solutions to help us create plans for the remainder of the school year. Although last week’s
updated guidance from the Ohio Department of Education about remote learning provided additional information to
us, it did not change how we were working to solve the problems related to our transportation challenges. As we
have expressed, we have never been satisfied with a remote learning rotation; we simply had no other short-term
options within the constraints of laws and guidance without losing significant transportation funding, which calculates
at over $16,000 per day for our District.

We have been working since early last week with our legal counsel, staff and partners to share and finalize potential
longer-term solutions to get us through the rest of the school year. This week, thanks to the support from our staff,
the Reynoldsburg Education Association and Reynoldsburg School Support Association, we have been able to
finalize details for the plans we are sharing with you today.

First, the remote learning schedule for the remainder of November and December is listed below this letter. Thank
you for your patience as we have worked through a variety of college class schedules, testing schedules and A/B
schedules for our high school students. We also tried to make a schedule that equally distributes remote learning
days for the remainder of the calendar year, which is why some students may see different remote learning days
than they are used to.

Secondly, we will be adding another tier to our four-tier bussing schedule when we return from winter break in
January. This new schedule will allow all students to have full-time, in-person learning. In order to add a 5th tier of
bussing, the start and end times for seven schools will be adjusted beginning January 3, 2023 and continuing for
the remainder of the school year. Please note, the student start and end times at the high school campuses will
have slight adjustments but high schools will not be changing bussing tiers.

Schools with new start/end times:

Hannah Ashton Middle School

New student start time: 8:45 a.m.
New student end time: 3:15 p.m.

French Run Elementary, Taylor Road Elementary, Waggoner Road Junior High School
New student start time: 9:45 a.m.
New student end time: 4:15 p.m.

Reynoldsburg High School-Livingston

New student start time: 8:45 a.m.
New student end time: 3:15 p.m.

Reynoldsburg High School-Summit

New student start time: 7:10 a.m.
New student end time: 1:40 p.m.
Morning Preschool
New student start time: 9:45 a.m.
New student end time: 12:35 p.m.

Afternoon Preschool
New student start time: 1:25 p.m.
New student end time: 4:15 p.m.

Although we considered a variety of options for longer-term solutions to our transportation challenges, the 5-tier
option was the best option due to the following reasons:

● It allows all students to be back in school full time 5 days a week, with transportation, compared to other
options we considered.
● It has the least impact on our staff and families out of all of the options we considered.
● It allows us to use existing staff, plus new hires, to accommodate all student bussing needs.
● It gives relief to our drivers who have been picking up extra routes for months.
● It is within the constraints of the law and guidance from ODE.

We are working with our athletic department to adjust any practice and game times that may be impacted by these
changes.

Third, pending board approval at tonight’s board of education meeting, we will be changing the rest of the previously
scheduled asynchronous learning/PD days to regular student learning days to make up for the remote learning days
we have had. The dates previously scheduled as asynchronous learning/PD days were February 1, 2023 and
March 2, 2023. Students will now attend school on these days.

Despite these upcoming changes, we are continuing recruiting efforts to hire additional bus drivers so that we have
plenty of drivers for when our new schedule begins. I appreciate the extra effort our drivers continue to provide
students, including stepping up to drive additional routes daily.

Finally, I want to personally thank all of the parents and students who have emailed me, called me, come in to meet
with me one-on-one, and who have come to our community conversation meetings to share concerns, ideas and
insights. Because of these parents:

● We have made all transportation hiring a centralized process from the time a job is posted, until the time the
new staff member is approved by the board of education for employment.
● We discovered glitches in our calling system related to the sync and set up in PowerSchool, and now we
have all bus routes added correctly in the system so that if buses will be late, we have an accurate list of
who to contact.
● We will be rolling out an app that allows parents to track their child’s bus.
● We have continued to provide daily transportation updates on our website.
● We have added a banner to the website to share which schools will be on remote learning for the day and
we have also added notifications to the ReynSchools app.
● We have created a template for principals to use to communicate remote learning to parents.

I am grateful so many parents and members of our community are coming together to help us improve our internal
systems, processes and procedures. It is important to remember that each one of us is working to support the
children in our schools, and we are much more powerful when we are working together on one accord peacefully,
gracefully and respectfully, rather than allowing challenges to divide our community. I know the remote learning
schedule has put a strain on our Raider Families. Thank you for understanding and support.
