    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
    In the Netherlands, only the Dutch VWO
    diploma gives direct access to a university
    education. If you hold a foreign secondary
    school diploma, International Student
    Admissions will need to determine
    whether you can be admitted to the
    University. In this case, they will verify if
    your diploma is considered equivalent to a
    Dutch VWO diploma. You can check
    whether your diploma meets this
    requirement in this diploma equivalency
    list ! .

    PROGRAMME-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

    The required subjects are Biologie


    (Biology), Natuurkunde (Physics),
    Scheikunde (Chemistry) and Wiskunde A
    of B (Mathematics). A and B indicate a
    certain level or subject matter.

    Examples of equivalents are:


    International Baccalaureate Diploma:
    Biology Higher Level, Chemistry Higher
    Level, Physics Standard Level, and
    Mathematics (Analysis & Approaches at
    least Standard Level or Applications &
    Interpretation Higher Level).
    British A-levels Min. 3 GCE A-levels:
    Biology (A-level), Chemistry (A-level),
    Physics (A/S level), Mathematics (A/S
    level).
    Zeugnis der Allgemeinen
    Hochschulreife (Abitur): Biology
    (Leistungsfach), Chemistry
    (AbiturPrüfungsfach), Physics
    (Grundkurs), Mathematics up to
    and including year 12.

    International Student Admissions will


    determine whether these requirements
    are met.

    LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

    Dutch Language requirements

    If you have no knowledge of Dutch, please


    note that it takes at least one year to
    attain a relatively good command of the
    language.

    We accept the following exams as proof of


    proficiency in Dutch:
    NT2, programma 2 ! (Dutch as a
    second language, level 2). This test is
    administered by the Department of
    Examinations of 'DUO ! '. It is
    advisable to register with DUO as early
    as possible
    Certificaat Nederlands als Vreemde Taal
    ! : ‘Educatief Professioneel’ (before:
    PAT) or 'Educatief Startbekwaam'
    (before: PTHO)

    If you are a native speaker of Dutch with a


    foreign diploma, please contact
    International Student Admissions ! for
    more information.

    English language requirements

    Utrecht University accepts the following


    exams as proof of proficiency in English:
    IELTS ! , Academic Module. Minimum
    score: 6.0 overall band, 5.5 for writing.
    IELTS is the test preferred by Utrecht
    University.
    TOEFL ! , Internet based. Minimum
    score: 83. Institutional scores are not
    accepted.
    The TOEFL institution code for Utrecht
    University is 9062.
    Cambridge Certificates ! :
    Cambridge English C1 Advanced
    (CAE). Minimum score: 169 total, 162
    writing.
    Cambridge English C2 Proficiency
    (CPE). Minimum score: 180 total, 162
    writing.

    Exceptions:

    You are considered to be proficient in


    English and do not need to provide a test
    score if:
    You obtained your secondary school
    diploma in Australia, Canada, Ireland,
    New Zealand, Singapore, UK, USA or
    South Africa,
    or
    You obtained an International
    Baccalaureate Diploma ! or European
    Baccalaureate Diploma ! (taught in
    English)

    It is not necessary to have passed the


    English test at the time of your
    application. The results can be submitted
    later. More information.
