metallic deposit" on the press, and he suspected it was not being
used for compressing Fuller's earth. Then he confronted an
employer who then attacked him and his thumb got chopped off.
When they go to the location the house was on fire and the
criminals had escaped.
In the story “The copper beeches”, Violet Hunter got offered a
governess job and decided to consult Sherlock Holmes. She
even told Sherlock Holmes about some conditions like cutting
her hair short and the salary was very high. She accepted the job
and Holmes told her to consult him if ever needed. After some

someone had been living in the sealed of section of the house.
Holmes, Watson and Hunter go to explore the wing and they see
that no one is there. Then they were accused of letting the
prisoner go which was Hunters Employers daughter. The
Employer sets his dog on them which attacks the employer
instead. It was revealed that the employer hired Hunter to make
her enact as his daughter. He did so because he wanted to tell
her daughters fiancé no longer had interest in him. Later her
daughter escaped and they got married.
In the story “The Beryl Coronet”, A banker, Mr. Alexander
Holder makes a loan of £50,000 to a socially prominent client,
who leaves the Beryl Coronet. Holder feels that he must not
leave this rare and precious piece of jewelry in his personal safe
at the bank, and so he takes it home with him to lock it up there.
He is awoken in the night by a noise, enters his dressing room,
and is horrified to see his son Arthur with the coronet in his
hands. Three beryl are missing from it, and the coronet itself is
already broken. Holder travels to see Holmes, who agrees to
take the case. As Holmes was starting to handle the case, some
peculiarities appeared. Arthur is refusing to give a statement of
any kind. Holmes then found that even a strong man like him
could not break the coronet without making any noise. Holmes
begins to believe that Arthur didn’t take the beryl. Holmes sets
about not only reviewing the details that he learns from Holder,
but also examining the footprints in the snow outside.
Eventually, Holmes solves the mystery, and Holder is surprised
to find that his niece Mary was in league with a notorious
criminal, Sir George Burwell, although she is unaware of his
character. The two of them escape justice. However, Holmes is
convinced that they will receive their punishment in due time.
In the story “The Noble Bachelor”, Holmes goes through his
mail with Watson. One letter in particular catches his attention
because it's fancy looking. Holmes assumes it's an invitation to a
boring party for a wealthy person. He opens the letter and it is
from a well-known man named Lord St. Simon. The letter asks
for Watson's expertise in solving a mystery. Since Lord St.
Simon is showing up in an hour, Watson and Holmes have a
cram session where they pore over all the news articles about the
wedding. The story goes that Lord St. Simon comes from a
wealthy family that has lost much of its wealth. He quietly
announces his plans to marry Hatty Doran - the daughter of a
millionaire from California. The two get married, but during the
reception breakfast, the bride disappears. Just as the two wrap up
their review, the infamous Lord St. Simon arrives at the door.
These stories are from the famous “The Adventures of Sherlock
Holmes”, which is a collection of mystery, crime and detective
fiction short stories. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a great writer
of Detective stories and his most popular character “Sherlock
Holmes” along with his loyal friend /foe “Dr. Watson” are the
main character in this collection. This series of Short stories is
really interesting and it should highly be recommended to
people who seek for mystery. There are some parts in these
stories that need much concentration to understand.
