Dear Hiring Manager,

RE: Chief of Police – Cincinnati Ohio
It is with great pleasure I submit this letter to express my interest in the Cincinnati Chief of Police position.
I was born, raised, and still reside in the great city of Cincinnati. I grew up in the Lower Price Hill
neighborhood of Cincinnati. Growing up in a socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhood I witnessed
police tactics that harmed community trust. I also witnessed brave and courageous guardians who guided
and strengthened our neighborhoods through community collaboration and compassion. It was experiencing
this dissonance that drew me toward policing. In 1992, I pursued my dream and became a Cincinnati Police
Officer.
In my career with the Cincinnati Police Department, I have led diverse teams that have had transformative
outcomes for children and communities. I am currently an Assistant Police Chief and have proven myself a
forward thinking, progressive, innovative, and collaborative leader who recognizes the power of diversity.
While my professional accomplishments are reflected in my resume, I am most proud of my compassion
and empathy for the community members I serve and the officers and professional partners I work
alongside. I am dedicated and committed to problem solving, community policing, and Cincinnati’s historic
Collaborative Agreement.

I understand the status of law enforcement in our country today and the challenges of leading and impacting
a changing profession. We need police responses that promote crime reductions that are sustainable, guided
by research, and strengthen communities; while increasing police legitimacy and trust. My plan is to
embrace the pillars identified by the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing and incorporate the
principles of harm reduction, problem solving, community policing, and other evidence-based approaches
to safety and community collaboration. I look forward to sharing my strategies and ideas to address violent
crime, recruitment, retention, organizational structure and staffing levels, as well as strengthening the
policies of the Collaborative Agreement.
It is a responsibility and obligation of the Cincinnati Chief of Police to create an organizational culture
reflective of the community’s values and principles. With progressive and innovative leadership, the
Cincinnati Police Department can continue to be a national best-practice example of policing done right.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Lisa Davis
