Psychological Treatments

Psychotherapy aims to cure unsettling feelings, ideas, and behaviors. There are numerous
well-known forms of psychotherapy. Psychoanalysis, person-centered therapy, behavior therapy,
cognitive therapy, group therapy, and biological treatments are a few treatment modalities
available. If I were a mental health professional, I would need the person I was treating to
cooperate with the treatment to lessen their problems. Cognitive therapy, in my opinion, is the
most successful form of treatment because it aids patients in coping skills and helps them change
their negative thought and behavior patterns with more positive ones.
The practice of releasing emotions is a component of psychoanalysis, “which is a
therapy that aims to give people insight into the contents of their unconscious minds (Schacter,
et al., 2021, p. 296)”. Everyone is known to have unconscious feelings, memories, and ideas that
have the potential to develop into a mental health crisis. The treatment of those buried memories
is made possible with psychoanalysis. Talking about and probing patients about their memories
of past events and situations may be part of treatment. When this happens, mental health
professionals can better address the problem's fundamental cause by bringing it to light. One
could feel relieved when they understand why they have been feeling this way and have already
talked about it. For people with behavioral problems, anxiety, or depression, this may be
essential.

Immune system's function. Other names for this type of therapy are biotherapy and
immunotherapy. Because it helps the body defend against illness and infection, it treats cancer
and other disorders. A variety of therapy called biological or biologic therapy is used to boost or
restore the body's immune system's functionality. These treatments are sometimes known as
2

immunotherapy or Biological treatments. As it aids the body in fighting infection and disease, it
is used to treat cancer and other disorders. The goal of biological therapy is to suppress a person's
problem biologically. The neurotransmitter can cause problems with the neural system.
Medication, psychosurgery, and electroconvulsive therapy, which shock the brain with
electricity, are a few biological therapeutic possibilities. Patients with severe mental illnesses
who have failed all previous attempts at psychotherapy are typically the only ones who receive
treatments like this. Surgery and electric shocks are not utilized very frequently, but medications
are.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) “is a blend of cognitive and behavioral
therapeutic strategies(Schacter, et al., 2021, p. 458)” The therapy approach is used the most
frequently. It is an effective therapy for many people and can be applied by therapists to deal
with various issues.
Cognitive therapy expects that negative attitudes will change. It is founded on our ideas,
both sentiments, and deeds. The fundamental component of this therapy is the patient's
conception of cognition. Hence it has several appeals. Many of our accomplishments have been
attributed to our cognitive abilities, which may also be to blame for some of our problems. This
therapy has the advantage of being the original evidence-based psychotherapy because it was the
first to undergo rigorous testing. Many studies have been done on it. People with psychological
problems such as depression and anxiety, among the most prevalent disorders, will benefit from
cognitive therapy because this treatment focuses on addressing negative ideas.
Person-centered therapy (or client-centered therapy) “assumes that all individuals have
a tendency toward growth and that this growth can be facilitated by acceptance and genuine
reactions from the therapist (Schacter, et al., 2021, p. 458). Mental health experts have used
psychotherapy and its methods to treat each patient differently. The numerous improvements and
options have made it easier to choose the treatment. The psychiatric specialty of psychoanalysis
differs from other specialties. Patients can express emotions through person-centered therapy, a
non-directive therapeutic approach. During centered therapy, a therapist acts as a compassionate
facilitator, listening without judgment and acknowledging the client’s experience without
shifting the conversation in another direction.
Behavior therapy “assumes that disordered behavior is learned and that symptom relief
is achieved through changing overt, maladaptive behaviors into more constructive behaviors
3

(Schacter, et al., 2021, p. 458)”. Behavioral therapy focuses on a person's development

behaviors and potential environmental influences. It is possible to cure incorrect self-beliefs that
cause negative thoughts and behaviors.
Group therapy is “a type of therapy in which multiple participants (who often do not
know one another at the outset) work on their individual problems in a group atmosphere
(Schacter, et al., 2021, p. 458)”. This therapy involves one or more therapists working with
patients. Biologic therapy, sometimes referred to as biologic stimulation or biologic therapy, is a
form of medical care that improves or restores the function of the immune system. I proposed
cognitive therapy as the most effective type of treatment. Behavioral therapy is a typical
treatment approach used to treat several mental problems.
