LITURGY OF THE WORD
FIRST READING
Reader: A reading from the Acts of the Apostles 2:1–11

When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled,

they were all in one place together.
And suddenly there came from the sky
a noise like a strong driving wind,
and it filled the entire house in which they were.
Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire,
which parted and came to rest on each one of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak in different tongues,
as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.

Now there were devout Jews

from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem.
At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd,
   but they were confused
because each one heard them speaking in his own language.
They were astounded, and in amazement they asked,
“Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans?
Then how does each of us hear them in his native language?
We are Parthians, Medes, and Elamites,
inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia,
Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia,
Egypt and the districts of Libya near Cyrene,
as well as travelers from Rome,
both Jews and converts to Judaism, Cretans and Arabs,
yet we hear them speaking in our own tongues
of the mighty acts of God.”

The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Ps 23:1-3, 4, 5, 6

Response: The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.

Reader: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

     in verdant pastures he gives me repose;
Beside restful waters he leads me;
     he refreshes my soul.
Response: The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.

Reader: He guides me in right paths

     for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk in the dark valley
I fear no evil; for you are at my side
With your rod and your staff
     that give me courage.

Response: The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.

Reader: You spread the table before me

     in the sight of my foes;
You anoint my head with oil;
     my cup overflows.
Only goodness and kindness follow me
      all the days of my life;
And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
     for years to come.

Response: The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.

SECOND READING
Reader: A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Galatians 5:16,22-25

Brothers and sisters,

live by the Spirit
and you will certainly not gratify the desire of the flesh.
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, generosity,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their flesh
with its passions and desires.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also follow the Spirit.

The word of the Lord.

ACCLAMATION BEFORE THE GOSPEL

℟. Alleluia, alleluia.
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of your love.

℟. Alleluia, alleluia.
HOLY GOSPEL

Priest: The Lord be with you.

Com / People: And with your spirit.

Priest: ✠ A reading from the holy Gospel according to John.

(20:19–23)
Com / People: Glory to you O Lord.

Priest:
On the evening of that first day of the week,
when the doors were locked, where the disciples were,
   for fear of the Jews,
Jesus came and stood in their midst
and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side.
The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you.
As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”
And when he had said this,
he breathed on them and said to them,
   “Receive the Holy Spirit.
Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them,
and whose sins you retain are retained.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

PRESENTATION OF THE CANDIDATE
The pastor approaches the microphone to present the candidate for Confirmation.

Fr. Jomar: Candidate for confirmation, please stand.

Dear Monsignor, I am pleased to present to you

these candidates
who have prepared for
and are now ready to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

HOMILY
All be seated. The Presider gives the homily.

RENEWAL OF BAPTISMAL PROMISES

After the homily, the candidates stand. The presider leads the candidates in the renewal of their
baptismal promises. During the renewal, the candidates hold a candle with light from the Paschal
Candle. All others in the assembly remain seated.

Celebrant: Before you receive the Holy Spirit,

I ask you to renew the profession of faith
that you made in Baptism,
or that your parents and godparents made
in union with the whole Church.

Do you reject Satan

and all his works
and all his empty promises?

Candidate: I do.

Celebrant: Do you believe in God the Father Almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth?

Candidate: I do.

Celebrant: Do you believe in Jesus Christ,

his only Son, our Lord,
who was born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered death and was buried,
rose again from the dead,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father?
Candidate: I do.
Celebrant: Do you believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who came upon the apostles at Pentecost
and today is given to you
sacramentally in Confirmation?

Candidate: I do.

Celebrant: Do you believe in the holy Catholic Church,

the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting?

Candidate: I do.

Celebrant: This is our faith.

This is the faith of the Church.
We are proud to profess it in
Christ Jesus our Lord.

All: Amen.

The celebrant now sprinkles the candidates with Holy Water.

THE LAYING ON OF HANDS

The presider faces the people and with hands joined, sings or says:

Celebrant: My dear friends:

in Baptism God our Father
gave the new birth of eternal life
to his chosen sons and daughters.
Let us pray to our Father
that he will pour out the Holy Spirit
to strengthen his sons and daughters
with his gifts and anoint them
to be more like Christ the Son of God.

The candidate will kneel down. All pray in silence for a short time. Then the presider extends his
hands over the candidates and says:
Celebrant: All-powerful God,
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
by water and the Holy Spirit
you freed your sons and daughters from sin
and gave them new life.
Send your Holy Spirit upon them
to be their Helper and Guide.
Give them the spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the spirit of right judgment and courage,
the spirit of knowledge and reverence.
Fill them with the spirit of wonder
and awe in your presence.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

THE ANOINTING WITH CHRISM

The candidates now stand and accompanied by his godparent holding his shoulder, goes in front of
the presider. The presider dips his right thumb in the chrism, lays his hand and makes the sign of the
cross on the forehead of the candidate, as he says:

Celebrant: __N__, be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit.

All: Amen.

Celebrant: Peace be with you.

All: And with your spirit.

During the anointing, a suitable background song or music may be performed. After the anointing,
the presider washes his hands with water and a piece of lemon. The Creed is omitted because the
renewal of baptismal promises has taken place.
PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

Priest: My dear friends, let us be one in prayer to God our Father as we are
one in the faith, hope, and love that his Spirit gives. Let us pray to the
Lord:

Lord, hear our prayer.

1. For these children of God, confirmed by the gift of the Spirit today, that they may
give witness to Christ by a life built on faith and love. We pray to the Lord.

2. For the parents and godparents of the candidate who led them in the faith, that by
word and example they may always encourage them to follow the way of Jesus
Christ. We pray to the Lord.

3. For the holy Church of God, in union with Francis our Pope, Jose our Bishop, and
all the bishops, that God, who gathers us together by the Holy Spirit, may help us
grow in unity of faith and love until his Son returns in glory. We pray to the Lord.

4. For all people of every race and nation, that they may acknowledge the one God as
Father, and in the bond of common brotherhood seek his kingdom, which is peace
and joy in the Holy Spirit. We pray to the Lord.

5. For all missionaries who have left home, country, and family to proclaim the
Gospel to all nations: may the Lord protect them from all dangers, strengthen
them in their loneliness, give joy to their communities, and fulfillment in their
apostolate. May the Lord reward them in this life and in the life to come for their
sacrifices and generosity for the Kingdom. We pray to the Lord.

Let us now pray for the urgent needs of our community, for the intentions of this Mass
and for our personal intentions. (Pause)

Priest: God our Father, you sent your Holy Spirit upon the apostles, and
through them and their successors you give the Spirit to your
people. May His work begun at Pentecost continue to grow in the
hearts of all who believe. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Com./All: Amen.
LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

PRESENTATION OF GIFTS

While an appropriate song is sung, the priest says this prayer in silence.

Priest: Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,

for through your goodness we have received
the bread we offer you:
fruit of the earth and work of human hands,
it will become for us the bread of life.

Blessed be God forever.

The priest pours wine and a little water into the chalice, saying quietly:

By the mystery of this water and wine

may we come to share in the divinity of Christ
who humbled himself to share in our humanity.

The Priest then takes the chalice and holds it slightly raised above the altar with both
hands, saying in a low voice:

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,

for through your goodness we have received
the wine we offer you:
fruit of the vine and work of human hands
it will become our spiritual drink.

Blessed be God forever.

After this, the priest, bowing profoundly, says quietly:

With humble spirit and contrite heart

may we be accepted by you, O Lord,
and may our sacrifice in your sight this day
be pleasing to you, Lord God.

Then the priest, standing at the side of the altar, washes his hands, saying quietly:

Wash me, O Lord, from my iniquity

and cleanse me from my sin.
PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS

Priest: Pray, brothers and sisters,

that my sacrifice and yours
may be acceptable to God,
the almighty Father.

Com / People: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands
for the praise and glory of his name,
for our good and the good of all his holy Church.

Then the Priest, with hands extended, says the Prayer over the Offerings.

Priest: Receive in your mercy, O Lord,

the prayers of your servants
and grant that,
being conformed more perfectly to your Son,
they may grow steadily in bearing witness to him,
as they share in the memorial of his redemption,
by which he gained for us your Holy Spirit.
Through Christ our Lord.

Com / People: Amen.

PREFACE

Priest: The Lord be with you.

Com / People: And with your spirit.

Priest: Lift up your hearts.

Com / People: We lift them up to the Lord.

Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

Com / People: It is right and just.

Priest: It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.

For you bestow gifts suited to every season

and guide the governing of your Church
In wonderful ways.

By the power of the Holy Spirit

you come unfailingly to her aid,
so that with a heart always subject to you
she may never fail to seek your help in time of trouble
nor cease to give you thanks in time of joy,
through Christ our Lord.

And so, in company with the choirs of Angels,

we praise you, and with joy we proclaim:

SANCTUS (HOLY)
Holy, Holy, Holy
Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II

The Priest, with hands extended, says:

Priest: You are indeed Holy, O Lord,

the fount of all holiness.

He joins his hands and, holding them extended over the offerings, says:

Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,

by sending down your Spirit upon them like the
dewfall,

He joins his hands and makes the Sign of the Cross once over the bread and the chalice
together, saying:

so that they may become for us

the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

He joins his hands.

In the formulas that follow, the words of the Lord should be pronounced clearly and
distinctly, as the nature of these words requires.

At the time he was betrayed

and entered willingly into his Passion,

He takes the bread and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:

he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it,

and gave it to his disciples, saying:

He bows slightly.

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT,

FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.

He shows the consecrated host to the people, places it again on the paten, and
genuflects in adoration. After this, he continues:
In a similar way, when supper was ended,
he took the chalice
and, once more giving thanks,
he gave it to his disciples, saying:

He bows slightly.

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT,

FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW
AND ETERNAL COVENANT,
WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU
AND FOR MANY
FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.
DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

He shows the chalice to the people, places it on the corporal, and genuflects in
adoration. Then he says:

Priest: The mystery of faith.

Com / People: When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup,
we proclaim your Death, O Lord,
until you come again.

Then the Priest, with hands extended, says:

Priest: Therefore, as we celebrate

the memorial of his Death and Resurrection,
we offer you, Lord,
the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation,
giving thanks that you have held us worthy
to be in your presence and minister to you.

Humbly we pray
that, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ,
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
Concelebrant: Remember, Lord, your Church,
spread throughout the world,
and bring her to the fullness of charity,
together with Francis our Pope
Jose our Archbishop,
and all the clergy.

Remember also, Lord, your servants

whom you have been pleased to confirm today
by bestowing the Holy Spirit,
and keep him in your grace.

Concelebrant: Remember also our brothers and sisters

who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
and all who have died in your mercy:
welcome them into the light of your face.

Have mercy on us all, we pray,

that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
with blessed Joseph, her Spouse
with the blessed Apostles,
and all the Saints
who have pleased you throughout the ages,
we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life,
and may praise and glorify you
through your Son, Jesus Christ.

He takes the chalice and the paten with the host and, raising both, he says:

Priest: Through him, and with him, and in him,

O God, almighty Father,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours,
for ever and ever.

The people acclaim:

Com / People: Amen.

COMMUNION RITE
Priest: At the Saviour’s command
and formed by divine teaching,
we dare to say:

OUR FATHER

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil

Priest: Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,

graciously grant peace in our days,
that, by the help of your mercy,
we may be always free from sin
and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope,
the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Com / People: For the kingdom,

the power and the glory are yours
now and forever.

Priest: Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles:

Peace I leave you, my peace I give you,
look not on our sins,
but on the faith of your Church,
and graciously grant her peace and unity
in accordance with your will.
Who live and reign forever and ever.

Com: People: Amen.

Priest: The peace of the Lord be with you always.

Com / People: And with your spirit.

Priest: Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

After all have exchanged the sign of peace, the priest breaks the host, during which
the following is said or sung:

LAMB OF GOD

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,

have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
grant us peace.

He takes the host, breaks it over the paten, and places a small piece in the chalice,
saying quietly:

Priest: May this mingling of the Body and Blood

of our Lord Jesus Christ
bring eternal life to us who receive it.

The priest says:

Priest: Behold the Lamb of God,

behold him who takes away
the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the
supper of the Lamb.

Com / People: Lord, I am not worthy

that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word and my soul shall be
healed.

COMMUNION ANTIPHON (Recited when there is no Communion Hymn)

Priest: Rejoice in the Lord, all you who have been enlightened,
who have tasted the gift from heaven
and have been made sharers in the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Priest: Let us pray.
O God, who bestow heavenly gifts upon your Church,
safeguard, we pray, the grace you have given,
that the gift of the Holy Spirit poured out upon her
may retain all its force
and that this spiritual food
may gain her abundance of eternal redemption.
Through Christ our Lord.
Com / People: Amen.

CONCLUDING RITES

Priest: The Lord be with you.

Com / People: And with your spirit.
Priest: Bow down for the blessing.
Confirm, O God, what you have brought about in us,
and preserve in the hearts of your faithful
the gifts of the Holy Spirit:
may they never be ashamed to confess Christ crucified
before the world and by devoted charity
may they ever fulfill his commands.
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Com / People: Amen.

Priest: And may the blessing of Almighty God,

the Father ✠ and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
come down on you and remain with you for ever.

Com / People: Amen.

Priest: Go forth, the Mass is ended.
