INTRODUCTION:
KALA KENDRA is an institution which plays the role of being an
apex body to develop music , drama , fine art , folk art , literature etc. and
thereby promote cultural unity .
The centre offers training through its faculty, and also organises
festivals, competitions, exhibitions, workshops, seminars, and other
programmes related to various forms of the local arts.
Creative arts refer to art forms wherein artists use movements of their
bodies, often in relation to other objects and their voices, to convey
artistic expression. The performing arts industry includes theater, dance,
opera, musical theater, magic, mime, spoken word, illusion, puppetry,
circus arts, recitation and public speaking. There is also a specialized
form of fine art, performance art, wherein the artists perform their work
live to an audience.

PROJECT BRIEF :
The project proposed is a Kala Akademi in Dwarka, New Delhi.
The DDA has proposed the construction of a socio cultural complex
in sector 11. It has mentioned five major requirements that ought
to be constructed on the given 18 acres of land –

•Centre for visual arts – contemporary art gallery , sculpture etc.


•Centre for performing arts and training- Auditorium, recording
room, rehearsal rooms etc.
• Administrative and library block-children’s library, reading rooms,
audio-visual rooms.
•Convention centre- Auditoriums, meeting rooms, seminar rooms
etc.
•Residential area- Restrooms/suites , kitchen , restaurants.
THE SITE :
The site is located in sector 11, Zone K2 ,Noida,West Delhi.
Total site area- 18 Acres.
The site is planned as the central core of development for urban
design of the linear district centre. The declared green volt zone fuses
into the site , along the drain from the northern side which has dense
vegetation.
Residential and institutional buildings are located on the southern
and western sides of the site while the eastern side has a sports
complex.
This area is fast developing with creation of a self sustained society,
where the daily inflow and outflow is not in a high ratio. People
working in the proximities may ensure the visit of local visitors to this
centre. Locating such a centre in this area will ensure recreation and
cultural unity among the people.

SITE JUSTIFICATION:

•Dwarka a fast growing neighborhood in South West Delhi.It faces a


centre of development concern for all political agendas ever made.
•The area and site both are favourable to concerned needs.
•The transit system development also allows to connect to many
people.
•Also due to concentration of population, this area demands a Kala
Kendra to stick to creative arts and culture.

AIM:
The aim is to develop a Kala Kendra as an art and cultural centre to
enhance art and to promote cultural unity among people.

OBJECTIVE:
• To develop a social place for spread of knowledge and cultural
unity.
• To emphasize upon the importance of creative arts and
education.
• Preservation of culture and heritage.

NEED:
•There has been complete cultural negligence in the society.
• The significant roles that creative arts and performance play in
the development of people is being overlooked by the society.

SCOPE:
•The major scope of this project is to promote the growth of
creative arts and culture in the society.
• To develop a centre which acts as a source for creative arts
education and display of culture.
METHODOLOGY :

• LIVE CASE STUDY-
 HABITAT CENTRE, NEW DELHI- The India Habitat Centre is a multipurpose
building in New Delhi, India. Mixing work, commercial and social spaces, the Indian Habitat
Centre is one of India’s most comprehensive convention centres.
INDIRA GANDHI PRATISHTHAN,LUCKNOW-Convention centre in
Lucknow located in Vibhuti khand.
 LALIT KALA AKADEMI,LUCKNOW- The Regional Centre of the Lalit Kala
Akademi, Lucknow, was established in 1983, and was formerly known as Rashtriya Lalit Kala
Kendra. The first Regional Secretary of the Centre was Shri C.L. Chugh. The existing land of
39,527 sq. ft. was allotted to the Lalit Kala Akademi, for establishing its Regional Centre at
Lucknow, for the above purpose and covers the art promotion activities in all the above
mentioned disciplines.
 RABINDRA BHAWAN , NEW DELHI.-The Bhavan serves as a memorial
museum and a major research centre for Tagore Studies. The wide collection of personal
items of Rabindranath Tagore is a major draw here which includes photographs depicting his
lifestyles and voice records. There is a library and a general section with spectacular
collection of paintings, letters written by celebrities and manuscripts as well available at this
centre.

• LITERATURE STUDY-
 JAWAHAR KALA KENDRA, JAIPUR- Jawahar Kala Kendra is a multi arts
centre located in Jaipur in India. It was built by Rajasthan government with the purpose of
preserving Rajasthani arts and crafts.
 AGA KHAN MUSEUM- The Aga Khan Museum is a museum of Islamic art,
Iranian (Persian) art and Muslim culture located at 77 Wynford Drive in Toronto.
