ROBOWARS

1. Problem Statement:
To make a manually controlled robot (wired/wireless) which can fight another weapon loaded robot and simultaneously complete the specified task.

2. Robot Specifications:

The robot should fit in a box of 40cmx40cmx60cm (lxbxh) at every given point of the fight. Any type of weapons can be incorporated in the machine but they should not damage the arena in any way. Damaging the arena may lead to disqualification. Robot should not weigh more than 10 kgs. Weight of wireless robot would be counted as 3/4th of its weight. The external wired/wireless remote control used to control the machine manually is not included in this size constraint. If the machine uses an externally placed power supply, the dimensions of the power supply are not included in the size constraint. However, in case of an onboard power supply, the machine along with the power supply should follow the rule mentioned in 1. The judges hold the right to subjectively determine if the machine violates this clause. If the machine is wired then the wire should remain slack under all circumstances during the competition. All the wires coming out of the machine should be stacked as a single unit. The wires(MAXIMUM LENGTH 600cms) should be properly insulated. Teams are suggested to use only rated wires. Loose connections or improper wiring may lead to direct disqualification even before the event. If the machine is controlled wirelessly, the machine must atleast have a two frequency remote control circuit which may be interchanged before the start of the race to avoid frequency interference with other teams.(the case of any interference in the wireless systems will not be considered for rematch or results) Machine cannot be constructed using readymade Lego kits or any readymade mechanism. Violating this clause will lead to the disqualification of the machine. However, no corrosive chemicals are allowed to use which would affect the arena.

Power Supply:

The machine can use an externally placed or on-board electric power supply. The machine can be powered electrically only. Use of an IC engine in any form is not allowed. On board Batteries must be sealed, immobilized-electrolyte types (such as gel cells, lithium, NiCad, NiMH, or dry cells). In case of an electric power supply, the voltage at any point on the machine must be lower than or equal to 24V at any point of time during the game. The organizers will provide a standard single phase, 230V, 50 Hz AC power supply. Any extension cords, eliminators, adaptors etc required will have to be arranged by participants themselves.

3. Arena Specifications:
1. The arena is on a raised platform. 2. The arena is likely to be unlevelled. 3. There would be some pits in the arena. 4. The arena may have sand, pebbles, or any other obstruction which would be disclosed at the time of event. 5. The robot can be operated only from within the given control zone. 6. A helper would be allowed to move on one side of the arena to carry the wire which has to be slack at all times.

Following, is the tentative battlefield for the preliminary round.

PIT
45cmx45cm

CONTROL ZONE 1 60cm x 100cm

PIT
45cmx45cm

CONTROL ZONE 2 60cm x 100cm

UNLEVELLED RAISED PLATFORM 300cmx160cm PIT

45cmx45cm

This round is a one-on-one fight. Participants have 5 minutes to immobilize their opponents or to push the opponent outside the arena. There would be a point system to decide the winner. The winner of each of the rounds goes into Round 2.

4. Judging Criteria

Direct elimination: 1. If a robot is pushed out of the arena from the same side of its entry. 2. If the robot is pushed into the pits thrice. 3. If the robot is declared immobilized. A robot will be declared immobile if it cannot display linear motion of at least one inch in a timed period of 30 seconds. A bot with one side of its drive train disabled will not be counted out if it can demonstrate some degree of controlled movement.

Point system: If no robot is immobilized, then the following criterion of points is followed.

Score= 500-50*x-25*y+10*z where: x=no. of falls in the pits in the arena y=no. of times robot is touched z=no. of hits damaging the opponent(marked as per judging criteria) Points will be given on the basis of aggression and damage

The rules and the arena are subject to change.

5. General Rules:

There should be no loose or hanging part/component in the machine. If the machine has some mechanisms which are deliberately loose accounting for a game strategy, the judges will subjectively determine the validity of such a case. However in such a case the decision of judges will be binding. The teams must adhere to the spirit of healthy competition. Judges reserve the right to disqualify any team indulging in misbehavior.

Any team that is not ready at the time specified will be disqualified from the competition automatically. The machine would be checked for its safety before the race and would be discarded if found unsafe for other participants and spectators. Judges decision shall be treated as final and binding on all. The organizers will not hold any responsibility for any damage/loss sustained by the machine/team during the game. The organizers reserve all rights to change any or all of the above rules as they deem fit. Change in rules, if any will be highlighted on the website. Weapon Specifications Robots can have any kind of magnetic weapons, cutters, flippers, saws, lifting devices etc. as weapons with following exceptions and limitations: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Liquid projectiles Any kind of inflammable liquid Flame-based weapons Any kind of explosive or intentionally ignited solid or potentially ignitable solid Nets, tape, glue, or any other entanglement device High power magnets or electromagnets Radio jamming, tazers, tesla coils, or any other high-voltage device Un-tethered projectiles

Safety 1. All participants build and operate robots at their own risk 2. If you have a robot or weapon design that does not fit within the categories set forth in these rules or is in someway ambiguous or borderline, please contact the event organizers. 3. Safe innovation is always encouraged, but surprising the event staff with your brilliant exploitation of a loophole may cause your robot to be disqualified before it ever competes. 4. Compliance with all event rules is mandatory. It is expected that competitors stay within the rules and procedures of their own accord and do not require constant policing. 5. Each event has safety inspections. It is at the sole discretion of the organizers that your robot is allowed to compete. As a builder you are obligated to disclose all operating principles and potential dangers to the organizers. 6. All weapons must have a safety cover on any sharp edges.

The competition will be played on a knock-out basis Team Specifications

A team may consist of a maximum of 4 members. All students with a valid identity card of their respective educational institutes are eligible to participate. Name of the robot should be mentioned at the time of registration.
