Q.1: How can Laura most effectively use both management and leadership
skills in her role as associate director? What combination of the two do you
think would work best in this setting?
Answer: As Laura is Associate Director, she is capable and can play the role of a
manager and a leader together. The managers that are working under her Linda and
Kelly are quite good at their job capable of managing the staff. Laura can assign
them managerial responsibility to two managers. She should herself focus on
working as a leader and use her problem-solving skills to help their staff so staff can
build confidence in her. She will now be able to do her work efficiently and focus
on building a greater sense of staff commitment to the company mission.

Q.2: What steps could be taken to build staff confidence?


Answer: Five steps to improve build self-confidence:
➢ Give them mentor
➢ Empower them to deliver their best
➢ Provide them timely feedback
➢ Provide appreciation for their job
➢ Give them liberty

Q.3: What advice would you give Laura on improving her leadership
skills and to the managers on improving their management skills?
Answer: Laura and two managers should coordinate with each other and assess their
management and leadership skills and determine, build, improve their personal
skills. They should focus on how they can support their staff and department in best
way. They can work together with each other’s strength to run departments. Laura
should improve her leadership skill and build it based on her current strength. Laura
may assign manager their work on their managerial styles. Laura should monitor
responsibilities and roles of every position time to time to meet organizational
mission. Communicating the staff general mission can enhance morale and provide
transparence on department direction and role.

Q.4: Which leadership style do you think a leader would need to be


effective in this situation?
Answer: The Laura leadership is causing uncertainty in me of staff due to not very
good communication skills and previous staff turnover. Laura can work on various
leadership method for instance:
1. Focusing, improving and doing potential use of her capability of resolving
complex problems.
2. Encouraging her employees by defining goals, removing obstacles and providing
support can help boost staff morale.
3.Considering the standpoints and emotion of staff creates motivational by providing
clear vision, developing staff trust and building positive regard.
