To Kill A Mockingbird
To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel by the American author Harper Lee. It was published in
1960 and was instantly successful. In the United States, it is widely read in high schools
and middle schools. To Kill a Mockingbird has become a classic of modern American
literature, winning the Pulitzer Prize. The plot and characters are loosely based on Lee's
observations of her family, her neighbors and an event that occurred near her hometown
of Monroeville, Alabama, in 1936, when she was ten.
The story, told by the six-year-old Jean Louise Finch, takes place during three years
(1933–35) of the Great Depression in the fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama, the seat
of Maycomb County. Nicknamed Scout, she lives with her older brother Jeremy,
nicknamed Jem, and their widowed father Atticus, a middle-aged lawyer. They also have a
black cook, Calpurnia, who had been with the family for many years and helped Atticus
raise the two children.

about his illustrious birthright. From the surprising way he is greeted by a lovable
giant, to the unique curriculum and colorful faculty at his unusual school, Harry
finds himself drawn deep inside a mystical world he never knew existed and closer
to his own noble destiny.
During that time that J.K Rowling was writing Harry Potter, she is going through
deep, dark depression. For this reason, she used the image of dementors to
illustrate how she feels. This explains why one needs to eat chocolates after an
encounter with a dementor
