Trying to narrow down our favourite dish wasn’t very easy, but if we
had to choose one, it would have to be nasi lemak. Nasi lemak widely known
as the national dish of Malaysia. Even though its origins remain
unconfirmed, most people said nasi lemak was originally created in
Malaysia. It once was simplified breakfast dish wrapped in banana leaves
and was sold as low as 30 cents. In this day and age, there are various
flavour of nasi lemak.
The ingredients of nasi lemak are rice, coconut milk, onions, ginger,
garlics, butter, lemongrass, pandan leaves, sugar, salt and pandan essence
flavour. The recipe of nasi lemak is, first, we have to wash the rice three
times or more depends on the quantity of rice. Second, we have to discard
the rice water. After that, put the rice in the rice cooker and leave it for a
while. Meanwhile, we have to cut the onions into four pieces, as well as chop
the garlic and cut the ginger into slices. After finish chop all the ingredients,
put all of that things into the rice cooker. In addition, put the butter,
lemongrass, pandan leaves, put a little bit of sugar, some salt, put a little bit
of pandan essence and put the coconut milk. Lastly pour the water by
measure.
Therefore, the ingredients of sambal are chillies paste, onions, garlics,
lemongrass, anchovies, dried shrimps, oil, sugar, salt, tamarin, sour slices,
limes and chili powder. For the recipe of sambal is, first, pour a little bit oil
into a heating pan. Then, fry the anchovies and set aside. Next, put the
onions, garlics, dried shrimp into the food processor and blend until it
become a paste. And then pour the paste into the heating pan. After that,
put a couple spoon of chili paste. Stir fry until it mix well. Put a little bit of
sugar, salt and seasoning and continue to stir fry. The past will get drier and
the colour will turn darker like maroon colour. Cook for another 10 to 15
minutes until the sambal become concentrated and the oil starts to
separate. Add lemongrass, tamarin paste, lime juice, sour slices and adding
brown sugar as needed. Next, have a taste and adjust it according to your
taste and let it cools down completely. Lastly, serve the nasi lemak with
sambal and add boiled eggs, slices of cucumber, anchovies and roasted
peanuts.
In conclusion, nasi lemak has a very rich flavour just like aromatic,
creamy, savoury, spicy and even unique taste. People all around the world
would recommend this national treasure as their breakfast.
