THEME: POLLUTION
SUB-THEME: THE EFFECTS OF WATER POLLUTION ON THE
ENVIRONMENT
The topic my group has chosen for investigation is “Pollution”. My sub-topic will
specifically focus on “The Effects of water pollution on the Environment,” because
water pollution is an issue in today’s society. On many occasions, I have seen
where people littered the water with contraband and left it unclear. People are blind
to the effects it can have on someone’s health.
This research will help me to improve my research skills, analytic listening skills,
comprehension skills as well as my reading, interviewing and problem-solving
skills.
I plan to do so by using research skills to search the internet for reputable sources
of information on the topic. I will focus on three; a poem, a Video and a
Newspaper Article.

Reflection 1
My first artifact, a poem titled “Water pollution, is it too late”, written by Steven
Beesley published on November 8, 2005, taught me that this pollution can corrupt
the health of people and expose and exploit the selfish ways of others and make
many toxic wastes flow unchecked to the water table and pollute our streams and
flow to the sea.it makes me think of how I treat my surrounding, How I treat
people and most importantly how I treat myself
The final artifact, a newspaper report, titled “pick up the pieces”, which was
published by Erica Cirino on October 1, 2021, that speaks on the chemicals that
affect our waters, how they damage the ocean, our food to eat and how the plastic
chemicals that living creatures' intake affect them. It hurts to know that our own
people don’t even think about what they do to our surroundings, moreover us.
Imagine what they do in their homes, school and workplace. After reading this
article it made me think about what it would be like if I was in that position and
what I would do to help our surroundings.
Reflection 2
In the first artifact ‘Water Pollution is it too late”, the writer, Steven Beesley uses
formal language such as visual imagery like “Polluting our ecosystems that brings
acid rain and also uses rhetorical questions such as “Can we really survive, with
such savage contamination that is just so great? The poet uses rhetoric to allow
readers to ponder on their actions.
The second artifact, a video advertisement titled ‘You’ uses formal language and
the use of rhetorical questions ‘do you know what happens when you leave trash
laying around?’ Allows for clear understanding and grabs the attention of the
audience without too much criticism. The advertisement also uses rhetorical
questions to appeal to the audience about the change that should be made.
The final artifact, a newspaper article titled “pick up the pieces”, The writer Erica
Cirino uses formal language “ingestion and exposure are still not completely
understood, scientists agree these small plastic particles are efficient transporters of
toxic chemicals that pose a threat to the lives of wild animals.”, and rhetorical
questions “How are human bodies affected by micro- and nano plastic particles” it
also explains to us the ingestion of plastics to animal and how it kills them.
Reflection 3
This SBA has taught me how to listen and read attentively and how to
look at literary works from different points of view. Our meetings as a
group made me learn that how you speak greatly affects the way the
message is delivered and taught me to be more careful with how I speak.
I have learned from that choice of words and tonality strongly influence
the interpretation of statements.
From the three artifacts, I learned that the effects of water pollution are
always openly displayed. They have taught me that effects of water
pollution can cause a lot of long-lasting problems for people that
struggle and people who refuse to help others. Knowing this, my range
of thought has broadened. I have learned to think with intention to help
people and stop water pollution in my community. As well as to be
aware of the effects it has on living organisms
