A Little princess essay

INTRODUCTION:
In Frances Hodgson Burnetts A little princess story, the narrator begins a vivid
description of the day Sara and her father arrived in London with specific words. “Once on a
dark winters day, when the yellow fog hung so thick and heavy in the streets of London…” The
use of imagery in a story is a way to aid the readers imagination towards characters or events.
The main character is Sara Crewe. She comes from her wealthy background and has a
very caring and loving personality. She loves her widowed father very much, who is a Captain in
the Army. Her mother died when she was young. Sara is also talented with a wonderful
imagination that allows her to escape the conflicts she encounters.
BODY:
Sara is a seven-year girl, slim, tall with a heavy black curly hair. Her eyes are gray with
big, long lashes. She’s kind, caring, generous, brave, optimistic, and intelligent little girl.
Sara travels to England with her father because he is sending her to the seminary school
of Miss Minchin, who is respectable, ugly, greedy, and cruel. After they bought the beautiful
doll Emily and anything that Sara needed, they head back to the school. Sara started with her
classes and her first lesson is the French language. Miss Minchin think she will fail to learn but
Sara speaks the language since her mom and Miss Minchin is annoyed with the fact that Sara
partly French. She does best friend to Ermengarde a fat child with blue eyes and a hair braided
in a tight pig tail. She gets news that her father is investing in diamond mines. After her eleven
birthday she get news that her father died because of the diamond’s mines, and she is poor.
Miss Minchin allowed her to stay at the boarding school but as a maid.
One day while she’s living in the attic a monkey went to Sara’s room and she returned it
to Ram Dass, the lascar. Sara met Mr. Carrisford and talked about the Diamond mines and the
truth was revealed. Mr. Carrisford found out that the girl he was looking was Sara Crewe and
found out what happened to Sara and all the cruelty that Miss Minchin did to her. Mrs.
Carmichael tell Sara that Mr. Carrisford don’t lose her papa’s money and explained that he has
looked for her everywhere. She confesses that they are caring for her in secret even they don’t
know that was her. Miss. Minchin went to look for Sara and upon entering she found out the
whole truth. She insisted that Sara return as a student again, but Mr. Carriford told her that
Sara would stay with him.
Sara was back to normal and started living in comfort with Becky as her pampered
servant. Remembering her hunger Sara returns to the bakery when she bought the buns. The
next day Sara entered the store, and the bun woman recognized her for giving the buns to the
beggar child. Sara told her idea that when she saw a cold and hungry child, she would let it in
into the store and give it buns that she could pay for later and she accepted. The bun woman
tells Sara that the beggar child was called Ann and that she lived and worked with her, the girl
came out and Sara was very happy to see her so well. Sara left the store with certainly that the
girl would do for others what she once did for herself.
CONCLUSION:
A little princess is a beautifully crafted novel that celebrates the power of imagination. Sara
Crewe is a smart, inventive, and generous young heroine, and readers will identify with her
despite the book's old-fashioned language and setting.
Burnett's vivid writing style, which brings her characters to life, keeps readers reading the
entire novel. Most girls want to be a princess when they grow up. The author tells us a story
about an extremely intelligent young lady with an exceptional character. I absolutely
recommended because it is difficult not to be influenced by her positively of course. The
contrast between good and bad is striking and projected as a lesson to be learned. It is very well
explained and is sure to leave a clear picture in the readers mind of which path to take.
