1.

As discussed in the supervisor meeting, by Friday 11th November, I will release a list
of research articles which will be annotated and cited within my project – these will
be acquired through platforms such as google scholar, academia.edu and various
university archives. I will also look to open opportunities such as interviewing
healthcare professionals which would count as primary research for my project.
2. Treatment – I will first want to focus in on the progression of drugs to help recover
from MS relapses and how such drugs have evolved over the years. I will also look to
talk about the use of stem cells in the control of MS but most importantly, I will look
to show how the methods of treatment differ in the NHS to Canadian Medicare and
to the Private Healthcare System within the USA.

Diagnosis – show how the changes in MS diagnostic criteria have changed

dramatically over 25 years. Also dwell on the misdiagnosis of MS with UK (for
example, four in five people with multiple sclerosis in the UK are misdiagnosed and
are instead told that they have a trapped nerve.
3. Agreed – I think that instead of the term ‘evolution’, ‘progression’ should be used as
not only does it show that the diagnosis criteria and treatment has improved, it also
gives room for discussion.
4. After research and reading various academic articles, I do believe that it is possible to
explore the different methods of diagnosis and treatment across the USA, Canada
and the UK as their approach to MS differs. However, I agree that the terminology
‘to what extent’ gives the impression that there will be an incredibly wide scope and
so after careful thought, I think that this part of the project title should be changed.
5. After careful consideration and extensive research on the timeline of MS research
and after consultation with Dr Burton, I believe that instead of 50 years, the project
should span over 80 years. This is because between the years 1421 (the first
documented case of MS) and 1946, only primitive work occurred and so would not
be applicable to modern scientific research. However, from 1946 onwards, crucial
findings took place and much of the recent developments of the 21 st century build on
from the findings in the 20th century.
6. Sorry for this! Complete error!

New Proposal: How have the methods of diagnosis and treatment of Multiple Sclerosis
progressed over the past 80 years within some of the most medically established
countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada?
