SUBJECT : ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR

Guided By : Prof. Dr. Sunita Shah

INTRODUCTION TO PERCEPTION

 Perception is the process of interpreting sensory information to gain an

understanding of the environment. It is a complex process that involves the
brain, eyes, ears, and other senses to make sense of the world.

 The way we perceive things is based on our individual experiences, beliefs,

and expectations. This can lead to different interpretations of the same
thing, as everyone has their own unique perspective.
Perception in the art of Spanish Artist Salvador Dalí
MEANING OF PERCEPTION

"Perception may be defined as a process by which individuals organise and

interpret their sensory impressions in order to give meaning to their environment".

According to S.P. Robbins

"Perception includes all those processes by which an individual receives information

about his environment - seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting, and smelling".

According to Joseph Reitz

"Perception is selection and organisation of material which stems from the outside
environment at one time or the other to provide the meaningful entity we
experience".
According to Kolasa

IMPORTANCE OF PERCEPTION

 Perception plays a very important role in shaping the personality of an

individual.
 Perception is central in interpreting the world around us.
 Perception affects the outcome of our behavior because we act on the basis
of what we are.
 An understanding of Perception is crucial to understand and control the
human behavior.
 People’s behavior is based on their perception of what reality is and not on
reality itself.
CONCLUSION

 Our perception of things are shaped by the culture in which we grow up.
 Different individuals have different thinking styles, beliefs, feelings and motives
etc., and almost every person behaves accordingly.
 In an organization, Perception often helps to shape an individual's personality
and how they act in stressful situations & perform their task. Simply because
peoples behavior is based not on reality, but on their perception of what
reality is.
