Webinar on “Bio Brain Behavioral Bridging unlocking (B4U) - 2023”

Date: 16 Feb, 2023
Mode: Online
Organizer: CDAC- Delhi

Good morning, Namaste!

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen. A Very Good afternoon to you all.

It is a great pleasure & honor to be here, and I want to express my appreciation and
thank to C-DAC Delhi for the arranging this important webinar which is the need of the
hour in current technological era.

Under the patronage of MeitY, C-DAC always has been carried out the novel research
and subsequent contribution aligned to the national missions. The Neuro Cognitive
Artificial Intelligence & Extended Reality group in C-DAC Delhi has extended its arms
with a highly demanded new research areas in the domain of Artificial Intelligence,
ML/DL, Brain Computer Interface and cutting-edge Technologies like AR & VR.

This group at present conducting major projects based upon the analysis of Neuro
Signal in the domain of Brain Machine Interface enabled Assistive Communication
System for Children with Special Needs and Cognitive Behavior Analysis. These two
projects come with the budget of 499.64 Lacs for three years and 199.66 lacs for two
years respectively. So far, MeitY has released Rs. 223.07 Lakhs to CDAC.

As we know that Children with Special Needs (CWSN) are those who have some type of
disability and require exceptional care and extra help depend on the nature of their
disability. The Special Needs of CWSN may include frequent medical testing, hospital
stays, equipment, and accommodations for disabilities. Various conditions and
disabilities of CWSN can be classified into four major categories, namely Physical,
Sensory, Developmental, and Behavioural or Emotional.
A 2019 UNESCO research states that in India, of the 78.64 lakh children with disabilities,
three-fourths of those under the age of five do not attend any educational institution.
Additionally, 12% of children with disabilities have dropped out of school, and 27%
have never attended an educational institution.According to a 2019 UNESCO report, in
India out of 78.64 lakh children with disability, three-fourths of those aged five years
don’t attend any educational institution. Additionally, 12% of the children with
disability have dropped out of school and 27% of children with disability have never
attended any educational institution.

In this circumstance, an interface is required so that the children's mental state or

intention can be ascertained even though they are unable to communicate normally. By
enabling an Assistive Communication System for their daily requirements, the Brain
Machine Interface aims to improve the lives of such people. In this situation, the there is
a demand for interface by which the mental status or intention can be detected of the
children though he/she is not able to express via normal means of communications.
Targeting for the upliftment of the lives of such persons, the Brain Machine Interface
enables Assistive Communication System for their day-to-day needs.

I was informed that C-DAC Delhi in collaboration of AIIMS Delhi, C-DAC Trivandrum and
GMCT TVM is coming up with the solution where person will be able to express their
thoughts by analyzing the brain signals (Electroencephalography or EEG). This is
targeted to provide various interfaces covering multiple use-cases. It would provide a
desktop application with mental imagery procedure, a web-based P300 speller
paradigm in devnagriDevanagari script and a mobile-based calling application using
brain signal analysis. I hope and anticipate these research work definitely would bring
the bright colors in the life of the users.

Another important aspect in Neuro-Cognitive domain is behavior analysis. Behavior

analysis applications are widely needed in the domain of mental healthcare, forensic
security, educational environment or towards social entertainment. In this context, C-
DAC Delhi team is targeted to employ deploy “A Multi-Model Neuro-Physiological
Framework for Behaviour Analysis”. The project is being carried out by C-DAC Delhi
in collaboration with DRDO and SIT Pune. Here, the Advanced advanced domain
expertise is provided by Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi and CFSL, CBI, New
Delhi. The scope of this project includes the detection of insider threats and the second
stage of suspect interrogation for internal security reasons. It had objective for insider
threats detection and second level of interrogation on suspect for inner cordon security
purpose. In fact Itthis is an anomaly detection problem where normal behavior is
manifested via standard EEG, ECG signals, normal heart rate, standard computer
interactions and gaze. The Neuro Cognitive Artificial Intelligence & Extended Reality
group in C-DAC Delhi team is developing an AI-ML based model for acquiring signals
and analyses them with the human emotions / stress.

I eagerly anticipate these projects being implemented successfully. They will be put to
the test in real-world settings at various government buildings and related institutions
all over India. The Neuro Cognitive Artificial Intelligence & Extended Reality group, in
my opinion, will soon start looking into cutting-edge AI-based strategies for improving
the current healthcare system.I wish all the best to the team and looking forward for the
successful implementation of the project, systems will be field trialed at various
government centers and similar other institutions across India. In near future, project
team may explore the AI based advanced techniques for
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.

Thank you so much for inviting me to be part of this important webinar.

Wishing all the success.
