CONTEMPORARY LITERATURE: Issues and Challenges
Contemporary literature is defined as literature written after World War II, through what we
know as the current era. It plays an important role as it reflects the social and political views of
a society. That is why writers in general look for what is fashionable in their time for their
literary work. Because as is believed, it would help them to clarify the strength or even the
weakness of society. With this, reading contemporary literature will give us a truly amazing life
experience because as a reader and is one of the contemporary people in this modern era we
will come to notice how we see the world. Therefore, this work reflects what we think and, as
we read this type of literature, we become familiar with the reactions of others in today’s world
and the course of life.
So when we talk about contemporary literature and how it originates, we need to

acknowledge World War II and the events that surrounded it. Like land wars, corruption, etc.
Which considered the paths towards this type, but the goal of this period is to talk about the
injustices in the world and the pursuit of civil rights, the issues, topics, and questions that were
raised during this traumatic moment in world history. As a result, it becomes the reason why
authors writing in this period, consciously and unconsciously, change their thinking to their
writing. Despite the large works, interests, importance and achievements of contemporary
literature in this era, it also experienced issues, a few of the social issues that literature
primarily wrestles with are age/aging, gender, ethnicity, and human rights. Problems were
seen as challenges that influenced its emergence. Of technology, including literary and media
expansion as a response to the world living under the threat of environmental catastrophe,
taking into account some of the historical, social, cultural and political influences of our time.
Influence, faster communication, greater culture, religion, values, diversity of globalization.
Literature requires an intensive and intensive acquisition of a particular language, but
globalization seems to focus on the simplest forms of work such as movies, comics and
commercials. Yes, power within a single language is no longer the best way to be one of the
world’s elite. Therefore, here we do not need to change the literature to make it more global
and polyglot only if the work needs to be translated. So it can be said, vernacular means of
everyday communication, cellphones, social networks, streaming video are mostly into access
where printed text cannot follow, it is just temporary because the printed words still lo is the
most efficient means of communication between two people.
In fact, literature has no need to follow the realm of cellphones and streaming video and
the failure of intellectual property system has only been a problem for those who are harden in
an outdated model of creative and artistic production . It has been only a problem specifically
for the media in which during this period of literature, book promotion, distribution, and retail
destabilized, ink-on-paper manufacturing is an outmoded, toxic industry with steeply rising
costs and so with this the failure of newspapers and magazines is a bigger problem hence it is
actually dead and dying aspects of print culture. In the ninth, eleventh, and twelfth challenges
in contemporary literature, there have been a literary heritage, a searchable database
collapsed, barriers to publication and algorithms and social media were replacing the editors
but on the other side it brought a not so serious challenge to contemporary literature because
as a human who get access to this database we can look for citations, quotes and creative
works that can be pass on links among our friends that will make our lives easier and better
and with the collaboration of technology there are great new benefits for contemporary
literature. Yet, on the flip side the presence of technology were looked up negatively as it
would be a challenge because there will be this so called “ convergence culture”, in which it
talks about how computers, cell phones, video game systems and virtually all personal
electronic devices are becoming all-in-one access points for all culture and all communication
with the outside world. This is because the computer hardware allows for better viewing of
media and also for rapid dissemination of media on the Internet. Now people can watch TV
and movies, listen to music, “blog”, “tweet”, learn new things, share jokes and even read books
from various electronic devices “all in one”.
This was considered I think as a challenge because people will be more acquainted to the
works of technology instead of reading books or the usual way to engage in literature. But for
me I never think of it as eliminating something we learn from the past, what happens now are
just revisions and innovations or let me say it is another media product which helps literature
becomes more interested and persuading to people. Considering we are all different types of
individual, there are some who prefer to watch outputs of literature a they wanted to have
visual presentations to story, for some they prefer to read in books and read in silence or open
their gadgets or open app and get to do whatever they concerning literature. The point in these
issues and challenges is that those who doubt, claim the difficulty of evaluating modern
literature, and of taking ahistorical attitude towards it. Due to the lack of perspective to see it,
the point is also made that literature is hardly national any longer and that proper study of
contemporary literature demands a background which only the mature student possess.
Because of the differences between post-modern literature and contemporary literature, works
from the technological boom and this have brought changes in the genres in Contemporary
literature. Taking influence, background, history and education into account, a new era of
writing has emerged in contemporary literature and deserved to be respected as such.
