Objectives
Recently graduated from Trent university with a Bachelor’s in Physics. Pursuing a career
as a high school Math and Physics teacher. Currently in my second year of the Teacher’s
Education program at the University of Ottawa. In my first practicum placement, I gained
experience teaching grades 11 and 12 physics from a student-centred approach. Students
worked in groups each day to explore different physical phenomena through inquiry-based
learning by first observing a phenomenon, asking questions, then performing tests to explore
where their inquiries take them. In these classes, I was able to explore the role of teacher-
as-a-facilitator to a student-led classroom. In my second placement, I have been working
in grades 9 and 10 math classrooms. Here, I have been able to explore and implement the
”Thinking Classroom” approach to math education, popularized by Peter Liljedahl. It has
been a dream come true to see how motivated students can be to learn math each day
under this pedagogical approach to the subject. As I transition into my teaching career, I
hope to be able to explore these approaches to teachings and further my pedagogy from a
student-centred lens.
