PSCI 505: USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN SCIENCE TEACHING

CHAPTER 1 PRESENTATION OF DIFFERENT

INTERACTIVE LEARNING STRATEGIES
USING TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHING
SCIENCE
TITLE Module 2: Interactive Learning Strategies
I. RATIONALE With the COVID-19 Pandemic, traditional
classes shifted to distance learning modality. With this,
teachers were pushed to adapt for the need of new way of
instruction to still fulfill the quality education amidst the
pandemic. From way back, teachers face new generations of
students each day and now, who have a very close
relationship with technology and social media. Therefore,
with the pandemic and increasing need to adapt to the new
generation, it is vital that teachers learn how to create
and modify classes with the new interactive materials
that distance learning and mobile devices allow.

Many studies have proven the improvement of

education with the use of interactive learning strategies and
technology. Moreover, it was also presented that these make
the students feel more motivated and interested in the
lessons. That is why, teachers need to take advantage of how
easy it is for students to operate a tablet, and thus integrate it
into the
classroom to encourage participation and interaction.

INSTRUCTION TO THE USERS This module includes various activities to

ensure learning of the students fit for the new learning
environment. This provides relevant, valuable, and
appropriate information suited for the topic. You are
encouraged to accomplish this module with the use of any
electronic device as a requirement. Your teacher will act as a
facilitator of learning and will give you a grade based on the
completion of the tasks in the lesson.
In this module, students will define, identify, and apply
various interactive learning strategies using technology.
PRE-TEST Activity: “Essay”
Republic of the
Philippines
Tarlac State
University
Instructions: Learners will share points and ideas for either
of the following topics:
1. Impacts of Interactive Classrooms for the Future
Educational System
2. Experiences on Interactions/Engagement in a Science
Laboratory/Classroom

II. LEARNING
OBJECTIVES At the end of this module, the students are expected to:

➢ define and identify different interactive learning

strategies using technology in teaching Science;
➢ apply different application software in interactive
learning strategies; and
➢ foster hands-on, real-world process of relaying
information in classrooms through the use of
technology-based interactive learning strategies.
III. CONTENT The preparatory learning activity is intended to be
A. PREPARATPORY meaningful and useful to the students.
ACTIVITIES
Preparatory Activity: “Experience Sharing”
Time required: 5-10 minutes
Materials: PowerPoint Presentation
Instructions: Learners will share their experiences
based on the following questions:
1. Before the pandemic, what are the interactive
learning strategies that you applied inside your
classroom?
2. In an online setting, what are the interactive
learning strategies you have tried to engage your
meetings?
Students will be given 3 points for sharing for each
question provided.
B. DEVELOPMENTAL
ACTIVITIES AND Discussion Proper:

Interactive Learning Strategies

- help students to be more involved in retaining more
material to improve their skills
• Active Learning: involves actively engaging students
with the course material through
discussions, problem solving, case studies, role
plays and other methods.
- help in strengthening the critical thinking and problem
solving skills of the students

before: board works, game shows/tournaments, gamified

classroom, pop culture references,
classroom debate/discussions, brainstorming.

INTERACTIVE LEARNING STRATEGIES IN

TEACHING SCIENCE USING TECHNOLOGY
BEFORE: Board works
NOW: jamboard, scholastic whiteboard activities, canva
- digital whiteboard that offers a rich collaborative
experience for teams and classrooms
BEFORE: Gameshows/ tournaments
NOW: quizizz, kahoot, mentimeter, canvas, quizlet
- game-based learning platforms/applications for
students

BEFORE: Gamified Classroom

NOW: Online reinforcements
- game elements added to online learning

BEFORE: Pop Culture References

NOW: social media integration (Tiktok, Facebook)
- post discussion topics or develop unique
classroom hashtags students can use to discuss and
share lessons.

BEFORE: Brainstorming
NOW: Breakout Rooms (zoom, google meet, ms teams)
Republic of the
Philippines
Tarlac State
University
Breakout rooms allow you to split your online meeting
in smaller groups. These can be used for collaboration
and discussion of the meeting.

BEFORE: Class Debate/ Discussions

NOW: recitation/reporting online
Online recitation/ reporting allows the students present a
topic with the use of various platforms online. It lets
students display their creative talents.

BEFORE: Outdoor Activities

NOW: Digital Fieldtrips (Interactive Maps)
Apps for exploring outside of your classroom give students
the ability to explore this pandemic. Children can access
informational text, images and videos to learn about
new places and inspire them to think beyond the walls
of their houses.

THE IMPACT OF INTERACTIVE TECHNOLOGY

ON THE FUTURE OF SCHOOL EDUCATION

1. Teachers will have more flexibility with teaching

methods.
2. More engaged students.
3. Boost in students' communication skills.
4. More additional learning resources.
5. enhance students’ technology knowledge and skills
C. CLOSURE For the closing activity, it intends to check
ACTIVTIES for understanding, emphasize key information and
correct misconceptions. It helps in summarizing,
consolidating, demonstrating, and linking key information
to acquire new
ideas and knowledge.

Closure Activity: “State a key point”

Time required: 5-10 minutes
Materials: PowerPoint Presentation
1. This activity is facilitated online.
Republic of the
Philippines
Tarlac State
University
2. Prepare slides that shows traditional learning
strategies.
3. One student per slide. One should identify the
interactive learning strategy with the use of
technology and explain how is it used online.

IV. SYNTHESIS /
GENERALIZATION Many studies have proven the improvement of
education with the use of interactive learning strategies and
technology. Moreover, it was also presented that these make
the students feel more motivated and interested in the
lessons. That is why, teachers need to take advantage of how
easy it is for students to operate a tablet, and thus integrate it
into the
classroom to encourage participation and interaction.
V. EVALUATION
Evaluation Activity: “Compare and Contrast”
Time required: 5-10 minutes
Materials: Online platform, internet connection
Instructions: Everybody will participate via online.

1. Put students into small breakout zoom groups of 2 -

3.
2. In their groups, have students create a visual graphic
(such as a chart or a Venn diagram) that shows a
comparison between traditional to online interactive
learning strategies.
3. Have 3 groups present their work after.
VI. ASSIGNMENT / To increase the learning capabilities of students, they
AGREEMENT will be given a task to have an advance reading on the
various applications that they may use inside the classroom.
The activity will be done by pairs and will be guided
by the information presented in the lesson. Sharing of works
