Antihyperglycemic and cholesterol-lowering potential of dietary fibre from lemongrass
(Cymbopogon citratus Stapf.)
Abstract
BACKGROUND:The major component of lemongrass by weight is dietary fibre (DF), but no
literature has been reported on its DF components and fermentation products when ingested.
OBJECTIVE:This study analysed DF components of lemongrass, investigated the potential of the
major product from total DF (TDF) fermentation to inhibit α-amylase and HMG-CoA reductase, key
enzymes of diabetes mellitus and hypercholesterolemia, respectively, and determined the serum
glucose- and cholesterol-lowering potential of TDF in an animal model.
METHODS:Lemongrass DF components were analysed, TDF was fermented in vitro; the major fermentation
product was isolated for enzyme inhibitory assays; and postprandial blood glucose- and cholesterol-lowering
potential of TDF was determined in Sprague-Dawley rats.
CONCLUSIONS:DF from lemongrass was shown to reduce hyperglycemia and hypercholesterolemia in an
animal model, through mild inhibition of α-amylase and HMG-CoA reductase. Thus, lemongrass DF may have
a significant role in mitigating the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypercholesterolemia.

Efficacy of Malunggay Leaves (Moringa oleifera) as Antibacterial Soap
Abstract
INTRODUCTION
Many soaps that can be purchased commercially vary in ingredients and formulations. Most of them contain unwanted chemicals that cause skin
irritations. Since Malunggay also called as Moringa oleifera is known for its abundancy in vitamins and minerals, the researchers thought that it
would be a good component in a soap. Based on the research, the malunggay contains a component called pterygospermin that makes it
antibacterial. It also contains fats and alkali that are needed in conducting saponification.
METHODS
In the preparation of malunggay soap the following were used caustic soda lye, coconut oil and hot water, stirring rod, mortar and pestle, beaker,
platform balance, container (soap mold) and graduated cylinder. Ordinary processes like heating stirring, grinding and the used of coconut oil
were used. The following properties like pH level odor texture and effectiveness were tested. Respondents were used and devised rating scale to
describe the properties and their preference. A pH meter was used in determining the pH level of the product. In testing the effectiveness, the
cultured bacteria were used to determine how much of it was killed.
RESULTS

After the testing of its properties, the results were obtained and analyzed. The soap's pH level was concluded to be almost neutral which the
same with the commercial products is. Its odor is unpleasant but tolerable but aromatic agents can be added to improve the product's odor. For
the texture, the product had a neutral result, which is acceptable for a soap. The effectiveness of the soap was indicated by the 84% elimination
of bacteria from a cultured setup. The cost is comparable to the commercial soaps.
CONCLUSION
Based on the gathered data, the product's odor does not smell good, but tolerable. This is significantly different from the commercial product.
The texture was acceptable for a soap compared to the commercial one. The pH level of the soap is just the same as the commercial products.
Lastly, the product killed 84% of the bacteria, which means that the product is effective for a soap.
The Perception of Filipinos on the Advent of Cryptocurrency and Non-Fungible Token (NFT) Games

Abstract
Purpose – This study aims to shed light on the rise of play-to-earn games in the Philippines alongside cryptocurrency. The lack of research and
public understanding of its benefits and drawbacks prompted the researchers to investigate its market. As such, the study tried to look into
the risks and benefits of crypto gaming if it would be regulated by the government, and how market volatility influences the churn rate of
crypto games.
Method – The research used a descriptive study to determine the perception of people who are engaged in playing “Axie Infinity”. The
research also used non-probability sampling using the snowball method. The only tool used to collect data was Google Forms. Furthermore,
the study used Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) to analyze the descriptive data.
Result – The results showed that most players spend their time playing Axie Infinity for about 1 to 4 hours a day. Predominantly, the return of
investments for playing the game will take about 1 to 3 months. It also showed that these players agreed that there is a possible financial
instability in a volatile market. With this, they have a high trust issue in terms of price manipulation, privacy and security, and its design and
usability.
Conclusion – Understanding the cryptocurrency market requires comprehending the perspective of the people who are engaged in a play-to-
earn game, and their concerns are critical for any government actions aimed at regulating self-employed income earners playing (Non-fungible
Tokens) NFT games in the Philippines.
Recommendations – It is suggested that further research must be conducted to understand how self-employed Filipino income earners
comprehend NFT gaming and cryptocurrency, impacting their level of interest and participation.
Research Implications – Taxing NFT games without sound regulatory frameworks may result in the disarray of this alternative income source.
Therefore, the government must tread carefully to avoid a market collapse or other unfavorable outcomes.
