USER GUIDE
The second EIA-485 port on the MACH-Pro2™ is dedicated for hosting I/O-Net.
The MACH-Pro2™ database can support up to 84 inputs (using 3 MPP-I modules) and 56
outputs (using 3 MPP-O modules). A fully loaded MACH-Pro2™ with two MACH-ProPoint™
Input expansion modules and one MACH-ProPoint™ Output expansion module includes
physical terminations for 60 inputs and 24 outputs (including twelve inputs and eight
outputs onboard the MACH-Pro2™ controller).
The I/O-Net port utilizes the EIA-485 network standard described in the EIA-485 Network
Considerations section of this document.
Because the MACH-Pro2™ features dedicated full termination on the I/O-Net port, EOL
switches are not provided on MACH-ProPoint™ expansion modules or on the host MACH-
Pro2™ controller I/O-Net port. Each MACH-ProPoint™ expansion module has a weak 1/8
load termination, and the MACH-Pro2™ controller has full End-Of-Line (EOL) termination
built-in. If all three MACH-ProPoint™ expansion modules are connected, the network is fully
terminated.
Expansion modules can be located remotely from the host MACH-Pro2™ controller. To
maintain a reasonable level of fault tolerance, expansion modules should be located in the
same mechanical room, or in the general vicinity of the host controller. I/O-Net is NOT
designed to be a building-wide network.

The MACH-Pro2™ controller includes a Reset button located between the MS/TP-Net and
I/O-Net terminal blocks on the left-hand side of the controller face.
Reset Button
Avoid using the Reset button unless absolutely necessary. Read and understand the
following material before using the Reset button.
The Reset button is only functional when pressed with the MACH-Pro2™ controller
powered down. It is not necessary to remove the cover to press the Reset button; however,
a tool with a thin protrusion of at least 6 mm (0.25") in length will be required.
Starting with the MACH-Pro2™ controller powered down, there are three different results of
a Reset button press, each dependent on how long the Reset button is held down. The
firmware remains intact during all three procedures.
User Interface

TABLE 5: RESULTS OF RESET BUTTON PRESS
Clear Description
Non-Volatile With the power off, press and hold the Reset button for two
RAM seconds. The Clear Non-Volatile RAM method resets the
capacitor-backed RAM memory, clearing Trend Log data,
Runtime Log data, BACnet Address Binding Table, BACset Table,
NET Ins and Net Outs, and Variable present values. Variable
values go to the last written value saved in the Flash backup of the
database. (All of these items are automatically regenerated after
the controller returns to normal operation.)
Database Press and hold during a power up, and release within five seconds
after power up. The status LED located below the power switch
flashes once per second. The Clear Database method resets the
capacitor-backed RAM (as described above), and also clears the
database. The controller pan file will need to be restored following
this action.
MSet Press and hold during a power up, and release after the reset
sequence is complete. The status LED located below the power
switch will flash five times. The MACH-Pro2™controller will remain
off for 2–3 seconds then all of the status LEDs will flash repeatedly
for 2–3 seconds, at which point normal operation will resume. The
Reset button must be held down until this sequence is complete.
The Clear MSet method produces the results described above,
and also clears the MSet configuration. The MACH-Pro2™
controller reverts to the factory default configuration.
USER GUIDE
The onboard expansion module always uses address number 1 on I/O-Net. If additional
expansion modules are connected externally to I/O-Net, the first external address will
always be number two.
The MACH-Pro2™ is available in two models. The MP2 does not include Hand/Off/Auto
(HOA) switches. Each of the eight outputs on an MP2-H model is equipped with an HOA
switch and override potentiometer hard-wired into the output circuit. When an HOA switch
is in the HAND position, the voltage at the output terminals is determined by the associated
potentiometer. It is recommended to use a flat-blade screwdriver when adjusting the
potentiometer, being careful to not make contact with any sensitive electronics. Rotating
the potentiometer clockwise results in higher voltage, while counter-clockwise results in a
lower voltage. The associated output’s LED will dim or brighten in relation to the output
voltage. The factory default position for the output potentiometers (fully clockwise) results
in full voltage being connected to the output.
When an HOA switch is in the OFF position, the output voltage is zero. When an HOA
switch is in the AUTO position, the output voltage is determined by software programming
in the host controller, or by a software override command from an RC-Studio® 2.0
workstation.

RC-TOOLKIT: MSET TOOL
Before attempting network communication to any port of the MACH-Pro2™ controller, the
port must be configured using the RC-Toolkit™ 2.0 application.
Each enabled network of the MACH-Pro2™ controller must have a unique network number.
On each enabled network, all device addresses must be unique. Duplications will cause
erratic network performance.
After the MACH-Pro2™ controller installation and workstation connection are complete,
perform the following steps to establish a network identity for the controller.

SMART-NET
Enabling the Enable X-Port Access field creates an internal physical connection between
MS/TP Net and two poles of the controller SMART-Net™ port. If enabled, operators can
connect their workstation to the SMART-Net™ port, or to any SMART-Sensor™ equipped
with an RJ11 port, that is wired to the SMART-Net™ port, using the X-Port-2™ converter. If
disabled, MS/TP-Net is isolated from the SMART-Net™ bus, preventing X-Port-2™
communications and eliminating a possible source of EIA-485 network noise in the
system.

Proper installation and configuration of the EIA-485 network is key to ensuring proper
operation of the MACH-Pro2™ controller. For a detailed description of EIA-485 installation
and configuration requirements for MS/TP networks, please refer to the Networking
eLearning module, available at www.reliablecontrols.com.
The MS/TP-Net and I/O-Net ports both utilize EIA-485 communications for all of their
options. The requirements for a functional EIA-485 network are described below.
The MACH-Pro2™ EIA-485 removable network terminal blocks are located on the left side
of the device.
USER GUIDE
2 Daisy-chain the network cable as shown below (avoid star and stub connections).

END-OF-LINE TERMINATION
MACH-PRO2
On all EIA-485 networks, except I/O-Net, it is necessary to add EOL terminators to prevent
reflected noise returning into the network. The EOL terminators must be installed on the
controllers at the extremities of the network.
EOL DIP switches are not provided for the I/O-Net ports on the MACH-Pro2™ controller or
MACH-ProPoint™ expansion modules. The MACH-Pro2™ controller has onboard EOL
termination, and each MACH-ProPoint™ expansion module self-terminates as it is added.
If the network is not terminated properly, the MACH-Pro2™ controller may fail to network.
Each EIA-485 network should have only two controllers with the EOL switches set to the IN
position.
Glowing network bulbs indicate a problem which could be: the Class 2 power is crossed
(24 VAC and GND) between two controllers, or the ground potential between two controllers
is not the same.

JUMPERS
An MP2 can monitor up to twelve input devices. The electrical characteristic for each input
is configured using the jumper located beneath the removable cover, to the right of each
input terminal.
The three-pin input jumpers have three positions and correspond to the following input
types:
• 4–20 mA.
USER GUIDE
The actual range of an input (e.g., -40 to 120 oC, 0–20 psi, 0–100 Amps), is set using
RC-Studio® 2.0.
A status LED is provided for each input, which brightens in proportion to the voltage
measured at the input. If the input is at the bottom of its range, the LED is off. If the input
is at the top of its range, the LED is fully bright.
OUTPUTS
An MP2 can control up to eight physical output devices. The range of each output, and
whether the output is analog or two-position, is set using RC-Studio® 2.0.
All eight outputs are wired as dedicated Universal outputs which provide 0–12 VDC at a
maximum of 75 mA.
Outputs
MANUAL OVERRIDE
When an HOA switch is in the OFF position, the output voltage is zero. When an HOA
switch is in the AUTO position, the output voltage is determined by software programming
in the host controller, or by a software override command from an RC-Studio® 2.0 work-
station.
LEDS
Each output has a red status LED which brightens in proportion to the voltage at the output
terminals. At zero volts, the LED is off, at 12 VDC the LED is fully bright.
The MP2 is equipped with an adjustable DC power supply for use in powering peripheral
transducers. The power supply can produce up to 0.2 Amps, adjustable between 15 and
24 VDC.

JUMPERS
An MPP-IO can monitor up to twelve input devices. The electrical characteristic for each
input is configured using the jumper located beneath the removable cover, to the right of
each input terminal.
• 0–5 VDC,
• Thermistor/dry contact,
• 0–10 VDC.
USER GUIDE
Revision E boards have a three-pin input jumper block instead of the five-pin as in the pre-
Revision E boards. The three-pin input jumpers have three positions and correspond to
the following input types:
• 4–20 mA.
An additional 0 ->100% (0–10V) range was added, beginning with RC-Studio 2.0® Update
1.50, to support 0–10V Humidity transducers. Also, the 0.0 to 5 Volt range was changed to
simply read Voltage.
Figure 41 shows the difference in jumper blocks between the Revision E and its
predecessors. Note that the three prong jumper still remains, but the two prong jumper
block has been removed. In Revision E, the jumperless configuration is used for both 0–5
VDC and 0–10 VDC input ranges.
Pre-Rev. E Rev. E
Before Revision E, the MACH-ProPoint™ had a jumper that would convert the 0–10 VDC
into 0–5 VDC for measurement by the controller. The voltage readings in software would
be ½ the actual transducer voltage. Tables assigned to inputs would have to specify ½ the
transducer voltage. With Revision E, the new range of 0 ->100%(0–10 VDC) in RC-Studio®
2.0 update 1.50 is used and the right hand column of the table is a direct correlation to the
left column.
Inputs
In order to use the full resolution of the analog to digital converter for temperature ranges,
the open circuit voltage supplied by the input on the Thermistor/dry contact jumper setting
is now 10 VDC through a 20K resistor. Previously it was 5 VDC through a 10K resister. This
means that testing voltage in the field will yield different results than before. For example,
an open circuit voltage measurement when the thermistor/dry contact is set will yield a
reading of 10 VDC instead of 5 VDC.
5 VDC 10 VDC
All products that support 0–10 VDC have a 12-bit Analog to Digital Converter (ADC)
providing a 2.44 mV resolution. This is more than adequate to meet accuracy specifications
on all sensor ranges. It is an eleven-bit resolution when using 0–5 VDC transducers, but the
2.44 mV resolution is maintained.
RANGES
The actual range of an input (e.g., -40 to 120 oC, 0–20 psi, 0–100 Amps), is set using RC-
Studio® 2.0.
A status LED is provided for each input, which brightens in proportion to the voltage
measured at the input. If the input is at the bottom of its range, the LED is off. If the input
is at the top of its range, the LED is fully bright.
USER GUIDE
An MPP-IO can control up to eight physical output devices. The range of each output, and
whether the output is analog or digital (two-position), is set using RC-Studio® 2.0.
Each of the first four outputs is wired with an unpopulated output module socket. Three
types of output modules are available and must be ordered separately in packages of 10:
the Universal output module, TRIAC module, and Relay output module. These same
modules are also used by the MACH-Stat™ series of controllers.
The last four outputs are wired as Universal outputs which provide 0–12 VDC at a
maximum of 75 mA.
Outputs
Relay output modules are wired as an SPDT dry contact. The dry
contact is capable of switching loads of up to 0.5 Amps at 24 VAC.
The maximum allowable load voltage is 24 VAC/VDC. A jumper on
the module is used to configure the contact as normally open
(N.O.), or normally closed (N.C.).

USER GUIDE
When an HOA switch is in the OFF position, the output voltage is zero. When an HOA
switch is in the AUTO position, the output voltage is determined by software programming
in the host controller, or by a software override command from an RC-Studio® 2.0
workstation.
LEDS
Each output has a red status LED which brightens in proportion to the voltage at the output
terminals. At zero volts, the LED is off, at 12 VDC the LED is fully bright.
The MPP-IO is equipped with an adjustable DC power supply for use in powering
peripheral transducers. The power supply can produce up to 0.2 Amps, adjustable
between 15 and 24 VDC.

MANUAL OVERRIDE
The MACH-ProPoint™ Output expansion module is available in two models. The MPP-O
model does not include Hand/Off/Auto (HOA) switches. Each of the 16 outputs on an MPP-
O-H model is equipped with an HOA switch and override potentiometer hard-wired into the
output circuit. When an HOA switch is in the HAND position, the voltage at the output
terminals is determined by the associated potentiometer. It is recommended to use a flat-
blade screwdriver when adjusting the potentiometer, being careful to not make contact
with any sensitive electronics. Rotating the potentiometer clockwise results in higher
voltage, while counter-clockwise results in a lower voltage. The associated output’s LED
will dim or brighten in relation to the output voltage. The factory default position for the
output potentiometers (fully clockwise) results in full voltage being connected to the
output.
