Please note: The NORD-LOCK torque calculator is supplied free of charge by NORD-LOCK and is intended as aid in the design

process. NORD-LOCK
does not take responsibility for malfunctioning or failure due to incorrect usage of the torque calculator. Note that torsion stress that occurs during
tightening is not considered in this calculation.

= specify parameters

A Specify bolt size (metric only)

B Specify tread pitch
C Specify thread friction (if applicable please use chart 1 below)
D OD of contactact area = outer diameter of contact area between NL washer and nut/bolt head
E ID of contactact area = inner diameter of contact area between NL washer and nut/bolt head
F Specify washer friction (if applicable use chart 1 below)
G Specify yield point of bolt (if applicable use chart 2 below)
H Specify desired ratio of the bolt's yield point in % after tightening (see additional information below in point 4 to 6).

NOTE: GTP600 is no longer available from NORD-LOCK. You may use any high quality graphite lubricant.

Additional information
1. It is recommended that bolt grades 10.9 and 12.9 are to be lubricated with either an oil spray or GTP600 (graphite lubricant). Stainless steel bolts should always be lubricated with
GTP600 or similar.

2. On a bolt screwed into a tapped hole and on a stud/nut application the lubricant should be applied to the thread and to the interface between the underside of the bolt head/nut face
and washer.

3. On a bolt/nut and studbolt/nuts application the lubricant should be applied to the thread and to the interface between the nut face and washer at the fastener end on which the
desired torque is being applied. On a bolt/nut and studbolt/nuts application remember to also tighten the slave end of the fastener until an initial bolt load is achieved, then tighten to
the desired torque figure from the lubricated end.
4. For solid structural steel joints using grade 8.8 bolt without lubricant the ratio of yield point is usually set between 60%-65%.
5. For solid structural steel joints using carbon steel bolts with a lubricant the ratio of yield point is usually set between 70%-80%.
6. For solid structural steel joints using stainless steel bolts lubricated with GTP600 the ratio of yield point is usually set between 60%-70%.
7. For containment steel joints with gaskets, consult the gasket manufacturer for bolt load details.

8. For non-steel joints please consult your local NORD-LOCK distributor.
