    Activity: Minute Reflection Paper


    Direction: Write a short reflection about the statement below. Write your answer on the
    space provided.

    “Treat a work of art like a prince: let it


    speak to you first.”
    ― Arthur Schopenhauer

    In my opinion, this statement means that when you are trying to understand a work
    of art, try to understand first why the artist made that piece in the first place. Try to know
    what happened in the time when he/she was creating the art. What were the factors why
    the artist made that art, and what was the artist’s mood when he/she was creating the
    piece. By doing this, you will have a better understanding about the art by using those
    factors on why the artist made the art piece.

    1. Based on the activity above, how do you describe art?
    - For me, art is a skill that humans can learn whether it is visual art, auditory art, or
    performance art. Art expresses the feelings and mood of the artist using his/her
    art skill. Art is an activity or a thing that is done by an artist. It can be used for
    entertainment or for everyday use.
    2. What do you think is the implication of art to the lives of people?
    - Art helps people to express their feelings and their mood. Art can be a medium to
    one’s opinion or creativeness. Art makes people entertained. Some form of art
    can be also used in one’s everyday living. It can also make other people’s life
    easier. Also, art helps you to understand one’s situation since when you are
    trying to understand an artwork, you are also putting yourself in someone’s shoe.
    Application:
    Directions: Answer the following questions.
    a. When can you say that art is an expression of self-emotions and feelings?
    - In my opinion, it depends on the form of art. For example, in painting. The artist
    can express him/her self through the theme or color of his/her art. By doing that,
    the audience may gain enough knowledge about the person’s emotion and
    feelings at the time the artist was creating the artwork. There is really no exact
    time when can we tell when an art becomes a expression of self-emotion and
    feelings. For me, when an artist is trying to learn a new technique in his/her field,
    that’s maybe the time when he/she is not expressing his/her feelings since
    he/she is just sharpening his/her skills.
    b. If you will be given a chance to be an artist, what would your art emphasize?
    - For me, if given a chance, I want to emphasize in auditory art specifically in
    music. I want to become a musician and to be a virtuoso. I want my music to
    have a positive effect to the audience and the listener and I also want to influence
    others through my music.
    c. What could be your suggestions on how to value a certain artwork?
    - For me, I will go directly to the artist and I will praise his/her artwork. By doing
    that, it helps to motivate the artist more and the artist might possibly sharpen
    his/her skills more. Also, going to their performances, concerts, or museums help
    in valuing their artwork because this shows that you love their creation.
    d. Today I learned that appreciating art helps in understanding the certain type of
    artwork created by the artist. Many people use art to communicate something that
    they are unable to describe or convey. It invokes sentiments of joy, melancholy,
    rage, and grief through its visual medium. That is why art appreciation is so crucial in
    providing the last piece to the puzzle, which is our interpretation. Our viewpoint
    brings the artwork to life as it shifts for each individual in the room.
