B. Motivation
Names are very important. It tells us so much about the person bearing it.
 Samson
 Rambo
 Hitler
 Palito
 Jumbo

Jesus Christ was called in different names and each name has its meaning? What are
the names of the Lord Jesus Christ that you know?
 Jesus – means Saviour
 Christ – means anointed or Messiah
 Isaiah 9:6
 Isaiah 7:14; Mt 1:23.

C. Lesson Proper

Introduction:
 Jesus Christ is called Emmanuel which means God with us. There was a time when
God step foot and earth and lived with men. This was when Jesus Christ was
incarnated.
 Jesus Christ was born from a virgin whose name was Mary. When we speak about
Jesus birth we are not talking about His beginning. When we speak about Jesus
birth, we are talking about the beginning of His humanity. He was born in a manger.
He was raised by a carpenter. He lived a very simple life and yet there is much in
Jesus Christ that we must appreciate and admire. What are these things:

I. (Phil 2:5-8) Humility

 Do you think that President Noynoy Aquino would stoop down and become a
janitor? Do you think Justin Beiber is willing to give up his fame and fortune
and become an ordinary student? Do you think Prince Williams and Princess
Kate are willing to become ordinary people? I don’t think so. None of these
people are willing to give up what they wanted to live a lesser life.

 What is admirable in our Lord Jesus Christ is that He left heaven and became
a man. He stooped down, considered Himself of no reputation and became
lower than angels. Above all, He did not simply become a man but He
became the lowliest of men, a servant.

 Why did He do such a thing? That He may die for a sinner such as you and
me.
 Do you remember the time before Jesus Christ was crucified? He ate His last
Supper with His disciples and washed His disciples’ feet.
 Joh 13:14-15, “If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your
feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. (15) For I have given
you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.”

 If Jesus Christ, the God man, has humbled Himself to serve His people, we
must do likewise. He must learn to humble ourselves and serve God. Only
humble people can serve the Lord.

II. (Phil 2:8) Obedient

 Jesus Christ was so obedient that even it required His own life, He still
obeyed.
 God is delighted to see obedient people.
 Php 2:9, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given
him a name which is above every name:”
 Illus. Abraham. God commanded him to offer his only begotten son
Isaac on Mount Moriah. He did not stagger to obey God’s command. He
obeyed God speedily. When he was about to slay his son, an angel of
the Lord stopped him and God blessed him.
 Ge 22:15-18, “And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out
of heaven the second time, (16) And said, By myself have I sworn,
saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast
not withheld thy son, thine only son: (17) That in blessing I will
bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the
stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore;
and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; (18) And in thy
seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because
thou hast obeyed my voice.”

 Students, let us learn to obey God. When we obey Him, He will surely bless
us.
 De 11:26-28, “Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a
curse;
 (27) A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God,
which I command you this day: (28) And a curse, if ye will not obey

the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way
which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have
not known.”

Humility
Obedient
III.(Heb 12:2) Sacrifice
 Jesus Christ sacrificed for us.
 Will you take the form of a monkey to die for monkeys?
 Will you take the form of an ant to die for ants?

 Jesus Christ left the throne of glory and took upon Himself the form of a
human being to die for us.

 Lu 9:23, “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him
deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”

 If we want to follow Jesus Christ then we need to sacrifice like Him. We

need to partake of the suffering that Jesus suffered for us. How? Win souls.
Soulwinners experience a portion of what Jesus Christ experienced while on
earth. What is that? Suffering/Sacrifice.
 2Ti 1:8, “Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord,
nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the
gospel according to the power of God;”

Humility
Obedient
Sacrifice
IV. (1 John 4:10) Love
 1Jo 4:10, “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and
sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
 One of the things that we must truly admire our Lord Jesus about is His
genuine love for men. He loved men unconditionally. On our part, we love
God because He first loved us.
 Joh 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten
Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have
everlasting life.”
 1Jo 4:19, “We love him, because he first loved us.”

 Because Jesus loved us, I believe it is simply just and right to love Him in
return. We are the most wicked of people if we do not recompense the love
of God with love as well.
 Illus. The Rich King

Once upon a time there was a very rich but unhappy king, unhappy
because he was all alone in an empty palace. How he longed for a
wife with whom he could share his life.

Then one day the king saw the most beautiful woman he had ever
seen, riding through the streets. Enquiries revealed she was a
peasant girl, but the kings heart was captivated. He would make
sure that each day he rode past her house in the hope of catching a
glimpse of his love.

But the king had a problem. How would he win her love. He could
draw up a royal decree commanding her to become his queen. But
then he could never be sure he had won her love, for she would be
required to obey a royal decree.

Perhaps he could call on her and try to win her over, appear in all
his regal glory and sweep her off her feet. But no, then he could
never be sure whether she had married him only for his power and
riches.

Finally he came upon the perfect plan. He would come to her as a

peasant. That was the only way to truly win her love. So he
abandoned his palace and his riches and his comfort and put on the
clothes of a peasant. He went and lived among the peasants. He
worked with them, shared their sufferings, danced at their feasts,
until finally he won the heart of the woman who had captured his.

So it is with God. Christ became one of us, lived among us,

worked among us, suffered with us, danced with us. All in order to
win our hearts.

 Let us love God.

 Mt 22:37, “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with
all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind”

 How? Joh 14:15, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”

D. Conclusion
 One of the names of our Lord Jesus Christ is Emmanuel which means God with us.
Understanding that God came to us in the person of Jesus Christ teaches us a lot of
things. It teaches us about the:
 Humility of Jesus Christ.
 Obedience of Jesus Christ.
 Sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
 Love of Jesus Christ.

 Let us emulate Jesus Christ in our lives.
