B. CUTTING TOOLS

points should come together. Shears have the length of 7- 12 inches and are
satisfactory for most apparel fabrics.

decorative edges on many types of fabric
Trimming Scissor - It is 3-4 inches long. It is used for trimmings, clipping threads and
snipping slashes.
Seam rippers- are designed for ripping out stitches from seams, either as a result of an
error or during alterations.
C. MARKING TOOLS
Fabric Pencil- The fabric pens can be used to show fabric cutting lines
or quilting designs.
Pins- used when cutting and sewing material. Helps save time in basting. Dull-pointed and
rusted pins should not be used because they will destroy the fabric
Needles- Comes in three sizes: small, medium and large. Needles are used for basting, sewing
buttons on and when mending torn clothes.
Fabric -is the cloth used in making garments. The plain cotton fabrics, flour sack or catcha is
the most appropriate material for beginners because these are very easy to handle.
E. PRESSING
Flat Iron - small appliance used to remove wrinkles from fabric.
Ironing board - is a small, portable, foldable table with a heat resistant surface. This is use to
keep clothes flat while the wrinkles are being ironed.
