The passive form

In active sentences, the subject is the person or thing that performs
the action:

The thieves stole a valuable statue from the museum

My father read the newspaper this morning

When you make this into a passive sentence, the object of the verb
becomes the subject:

A valuable statue was stolen from the museum (by the thieves)
The newspaper was read this morning (by my father)
