    2021 Election Duty -Ex-gratia payment to the Polling Personnel - Requested - Reg.

    Ref: Letter No. 218/6/2020/EPS, Election Commission of India, dated 22 nd July,2020.

    Adverting to the reference the Senior Principal Secretary directed to the Chief
    Secretary and the Chief Electoral Officers ofallstates/ UTs as follows

    1 am directed to refer to the Commission letter no. 218/6/2019 -EPS dated


    10.04.2019 on the subject citied and to state that the Commission has received request to
    consider the Ex-gratia compensation of Rs. 30 lakhs to the family of CAPFs/Polling
    Personnel, in the event of death due to Covid-19 while deployed for election duties.

    The Commission has considered the matter and decided to grant Compensation
    of Rs. 30 lakhs to the family of all polling personnel including CAPF/BEL/ECIL Engineers, in
    event of death due to Covid-19 during the process of election. Therefore, para 1 (11) of
    the instruction dated 10.04.2019 is modified as under.

    I. If the death is unfortunately caused due to any violent acts of extremist or


    unsocial elementlike road mines, bomb blasts, armed attacks etc. or death due to Covid 19,
    the amount of compensation would be Rs. 30 lakhs.

    Oflate, around Two Thousand Employees assigned Election Duty for Assembly duty
    from the month of March 2021 to May 2021, during the period spike in Covid-19. Some of
    the Employees were infected by Covid 19 as Polling Personnel and few of them died of
    Covid-19 such as Ministerial Assistant, Deputy Talsildar, Joint Director of Statistics etc.
    after hospitalization

    Therefore, we request your sagacious office that in pursuance of the Election


    Commission letter addressed to the Chief Secretary may please be realized to provide
    compensation of Rs. 30 lakhs as Ex-gratia to the deceased Employees worked as Polling
    Personnel during Assembly election 2021.
