The first example is The story of Hercules. Hercules is son of Greek God,
Zeus, is turned into a half-god, half-mortal by evil Hades, God of the
Underworld, who plans to overthrow Zeus.He is raised on earth raised
by Amphitryon and Alcmene. Hercules learned to be a hero in earth so he
could attain his true form as a god but then he met this beautiful woman
named Meg, who works secretly for Hades. He continue to be a savior of
earth while he’s in love with Meg. He sacrificed his self for his love, Meg,
which makes him a hero and while he’s dying, his immortality came back and
he save Meg’s soul and went together to Olympus.
As the story goes, the Collective Unconscious here is the instinct of a man
which we inherit from them or our ancestors. We men instinctively stand up
for the person we love. We have this masculinity to provide and protect our
love ones. We have this instinct to act the way we should, like provide for our
love ones needs and show that we are dependable. When it comes to crisis,
we are the first to act, like secure our family and we also have this thinking
that men can sacrifice his self for the one they love. The beliefs or instinct of
self sacrifice is already implanted to men’s brain. There’s so many kind of
form of Collective Unconscious that can be applied or be found on stories and
myths and the other example is, the movie, Clash of the Titans.
Perseus, a demigod and the son of Zeus, battles the minions of Hades
and the Underworld in order to stop them from conquering Olympus and
Earth. Perseus is born god, but raised by humans. He made a vow to
take revenge on Hades as he saw his mortal family perish. He fell into
despair and think nothing but to protect the human kind and stop Hades
from destroying Olympus and earth. Hades unleashed the Kraken to
destroy Argos but Perseus came and defeat it with the head of Medusa.
The story shows the war between man and God, they lost faith with the
gods as they show their wrath to them. They destroys the statue of Zeus
the God of Gods. The humans became independent and learns to stand
up for themselves and didn’t depends on gods. The conflict starts with
Zeus deceived Hades, he is forced to rule the underworld while Zeus
created humans and ruled them while Poseidon rules the sea. Zeus and
Poseidon gains power through prayers of humans while Hades gain
power through fear and that’s when humans starts to despise gods
specially Zeus, the root of the chaos.
It’s such an amazing story with a lot of lessons. Beowulf have a picture of a
leader, A dependable man who leads a country. It’s also similar with the
instinct of men, because universally, majority on today's era, everything are
leads by men. It’s already part of our culture that we men should be
masculine and lead our people to a bright future. Beliefs, culture and instinct
have similarities and that is, it can be applied unconsciously to our daily lives.
