Gunn COMPTROLLER (CHIEF OF STAFF March 23, 2023 The Honorable Henry Dargan MeMaster Governor State of South Carolina HAND DELIVERED Dear Governor McMaster: Itis with a deep sense of gratitude to the people of South Carolina that I resign as Comptroller General ‘Over the course of my time in public office, Thave taken great pride in the responsibility entrusted to me. Thave been humble in my approach to the job, an attribute I hope our constituents have recognized and will remember. Thave never taken service to the state I love or the jobs to which I have been elected lightly, endeavoring to work with my colleagues, from constitutional officers to members of the General Assembly, to be a strong defender of the taxpayer and a good steward of their hard-earned tax dollars. They deserve nothing less. As I close out my career in public service, and get the affairs associated with that career in order, my resignation shall be effective Saturday, April 30, 2023. I hope this will also give members of the General Assembly time to begin a process to elect my replacement and, ultimately, put forth an amendment to the constitution to make the Office of Comptroller General an appointed position, for which I have been a longtime advocate. Thank you for your continued service to the State of South Carolina. Sincerely, Oi Richard Eckstrom, CPA, Comptroller General State of South Carolina cc: ‘The Honorable Murrell Smith, Speaker of the House of Representatives The Honorable Thomas Alexander, President of the S.C.
