Psychologist as A Researcher

A research psychologist's responsibilities include formulating testable hypotheses, constructing

research plans, designing experiments to test their theories, analyzing the data produced by those
studies, and publishing articles and reports outlining the findings. To present their findings at
conferences, they might travel.

What is a Psychologist?

Psychologist is a professional who assess, diagnoses, and treats

the psychological issues and the behavioral issues that maybe related to physical and/or mental
health.

In addition to this they play a vital role in the promotion of a healthy behavior, improving
patients’ quality of life, etc.

What is meant by researching?

Research is defined as looking as an existing topic or a new one
in a creative way to generate new concepts, methodologies and understandings. It may include
synthesis and analysis of previous researches (if they exist) to an extent.

In psychology, the methodical attempt to find or validate facts, to look into a new issue or
subject, to explain occurrences, or to identify correlations between variables, usually using
scientific methods of observation and experimentation.

Methods for researching.

There are a total of 10 methods of research in Psychology, they are as follow:

1. Surveys
Survey research can be quantitative or qualitative, and researchers often use random selection
techniques when choosing and surveying sample groups of patients.
2. Case Studies
Professionals in other industries like finance, sales and advertising may also use case studies to better
understand consumers' investing and purchasing behavior to identify the financial services or
advertising techniques to apply to engage potential customers
3. Experimental studies
These studies can also be useful in other applications, such as sales psychology, in order to better
understand collective human behavior as it applies to various causes and effects.
4. Content analysis
Clinical psychologists can conduct a content analysis on any form of text, including full transcripts of
patient interviews or monologues, business emails and hand-written letters
5. Meta – analysis
Psychologists can conduct a meta-analysis by searching library databases for all published studies on
a single topic and gather the research into a collective summary.
6. Correlational research
This research method involves observing two variables that don't change and analyzing whether there
is a correlation between the variables, such as scores on two different personality tests.
7. Quasi – Experiment
You might use a quasi-experiment to study participants who have identifiable mental health traits,
since these traits are not random and therefore cannot assign participants to study groups randomly.
8. Naturalistic observation
Naturalistic observation is an effective method for studying how people interact and behave while
they are in their habitual surroundings, such as shopping in a retail store, traveling on public
transportation
9. Structured observation
Psychologists might use structured observation to understand how a new behavioral therapy or
medication affects patients' behaviors and use the results to modify or improve treatment methods.
10. Neuroimaging
The process of tasting foods or feeling emotions.

My opinion

As a Clinical Psychological we need to adopt the proper ways for research depending on the
situation at hand, and the needs of the patient.
