Have you been
applying to jobs
for months now?
Jobs you know you are qualified for and

would be great at, but still failing to land an

interview and instead constantly getting an

automated rejection letter, leaving you

stumped and frustrated!

Truth is friends, your application probably

didn’t even make it to human eyes!

YES! it was tossed out by the ATS bots before it

could ever come under human scrutiny, like 75%

of all online applications.

ATS or the application tracking system is an

automated filtration process for recruiters, so they

don’t have to go through 1000s of applications

manually, because that of course will be humanly

impossible.

It does the filtration based on keywords around


age, years of experience, industry, education, location,

job title, skills, functional expertise, behaviors etc. You

can get as specific as you want. So, if you don’t have

the required years of experience, or the industry

experience you have mentioned is irrelevant to the

position based on key words, then your application

goes straight to the bin!

Even with a minor functional switch, your

existing job application will be tossed out by

the bots because it lacks keywords and

experience!

Here’s my top hack to bypass the conventional
hiring process that is obsolete and archaic

Look for PEOPLE,


not jobs!
Your best bet to stand out from more experienced
candidates is to put yourself in front of people who
matter. People who are working in the industry,
company, job role you want to join.

People you can learn from, get a sense of their industry,


company culture, values, job role, scope, growth
opportunities, directly from the horse’s mouth.

And while you’re at it, pitch your proposition,


transferable skills and knowledge effectively so they
remember you and keep you posted when an
opportunity comes up!

right! and that’s why 80% of
jobs don’t even make it to the
job boards because there’s no
need. There are people already
lined up even before a position
opens. Through referrals, word
of mouth, proof of work, who
knows who.

People want to work with people they know,

like and trust! As simple as that, that’s all you

need to remember.

want relevant stakeholders to know you, to know what you
offer, to like you and trust you. trust your expertise and
credentials, vouch for you when the time comes, connect
you with a potential hiring manager so you never have to
float your resume around aimlessly asking people for
favors, which doesn’t work anyway and you end up using
up your favor too!

Networking, relationship building is a compound


investment that pays exponentially overtime. The
seeds that you’re sowing today will be worth their
weight in gold in the months and years to come.

But the key question here


remains: How to go about
networking when you
don’t know many relevant
people and have nothing
interesting to say.

Why would they want to

Because you take the time


to identify the right person,
add value to them,
gradually build a
relationship with them and
keep your ask small!

Networking Is
Cringe Worthy
and definitely NOT approved by me!

It’s also what makes the process


of relationship building insincere,
fake, and well, transactional,
actually pushing people away
from you!

You burn these potential leads


from working FOR you into never
talking to you again!

First things first, nobody can help you find a

job, but YOU!

Secondly, take the time to get to know them,

add value, build relationship before asking for

anything!

Finally, if your ask is not specific, small and

doable, they won’t bother anyway!

When you’re relational, you take the time to connect,
to get to know them, to understand their needs and
how you can add value without asking for favors first.
You see where I’m going with this.

If you get this right, they’ll ask you themselves what


your career goals are and how they can help you.
You’ll find the appropriate time to pitch yourself
without coming across as pushy or needy.

Hell yeah, it takes time! Like all good


things do! But, trust me when I say this, as
cheesy as it may sound, your network is
really your net worth...

It’s WHO you know that


matters so much more than
WHAT you know!

Case Study:
4 years ago, during one of the annual mentorship

programs I ran, pairing mentors and mentees, across

industries, I ended up pairing a woman, on a career

break then, to one of the senior partners in a Big 4

consulting firm, as a mentor.


As their mentorship progressed, he kindly offered
