Be verbs tell what the subject of a sentence is or was. Am, is, and are tell
about someone or something in the present. Was and were tell about someone
or something in the past. Am is used for pronoun I, for past tense, use was. Is
and was are used for singular nouns. Are and were are used for plural nouns.
