Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF)
The Union Home Ministry informed the Rajya Sabha that it has set up a task
force to suggest remedial measures for prevention of suicides in the Central
Armed Police Forces (CAPF) as 436 CAPF personnel end life in 3 years.

👉 About
● It refers to seven security forces in India under the
authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
● They are Assam Rifles (AR), Border Security Force
(BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF),
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo Tibetan
Border Police (ITBP), National Security Guard
(NSG), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF)

◎ These forces are responsible for internal security and guarding the borders.
◎ Assam Rifles (AR) ➔ The AR comes under the administration of the Ministry of
Home Affairs (MHA), while its operational control is maintained by the Indian
Army and is the oldest paramilitary force in India.
○ Maintains law and order in Northeast India and guards the Indo-Myanmar
border.
◎ BSF ➔ primary role is to guard the Indo-Pakistan and Indo-Bangladesh borders
and it is deployed both on the international border and the LOC.
○ Also known for being the largest dedicated border guarding force in the
world.
◎ Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) ➔ to guard the Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan borders.
Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF)

◎ Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) ➔ One of the largest industrial security
forces in the world, provides security to various Public Sector Undertakings
(PSUs) and other critical infrastructure installations, major airports across the
country and provides security during elections and other internal security duties
and VVIP protection.
◎ Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) ➔ It is the largest of the Central Armed
Police Forces units.
○ It includes the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Commando Battalion for
Resolute Action (COBRA).
◎ Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) ➔ it is deployed for guarding duties on the
Indo-China border from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Diphu Pass in Arunachal
Pradesh.

◎ National Security Guard ➔ commonly known as Black Cats, is a counter-


terrorism unit under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

● Eurasian otter is an elusive semi aquatic carnivorous
mammal.
● They tend to live alone.
● Also known as European otter, Eurasian river otter,
common otter, and Old World otter.
● Scientific Name: Lutra lutra.

◎ It is regarded as a flagship species and indicator of high quality aquatic habitats.
◎ It has an acute sense of sight, smell and hearing.
◎ Their eyes are placed high on the head so that it can see when the rest of the
body is below water.
◎ HABITAT ➔ Lakes and rivers or rocky coasts.
◎ Distribution ➔ Throughout Europe and Asia from Ireland in the west as far as
eastern Russia and China.
◎ They are also found in North Africa (Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia) and the Middle
East (Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Iran).

◎ It is the tributary of the Chenab River.
◎ It originates from the Sonabain Glacier in Jammu and Kashmir. and drains into the
Chenab at Pul Doda in the Doda district.
Eurasian Otter
◎ Eurasian otter is locally called huder or hud and was once inhabited the entire
length of the Neeru and its tributaries.
◎ Fed by 13 major tributaries, the stream flows through several small villages, semi-
urban and urbanized areas, with Bhaderwah being the largest settlement.
◎ The Gupt Ganga temple of Bhaderwah is located on the bank of this river.
Collective Security Treaty Organisation
Armenia's Prime Minister has been repeatedly critical of what he described
as the failure of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, or CSTO, to
protect its member Armenia amid a standoff with Azerbaijan over Nagorno-
Karabakh.

● It is an intergovernmental military alliance of Six
Countries that fully came into effect in 2002.
● It originates from the conclusion of the Collective
Security Treaty, which was signed in Tashkent
(Uzbekistan) on May 15, 1992.
● This is also referred to as the “Tashkent Pact” or
“Tashkent Treaty”.

◎ It received an Observer status in the UN General Assembly in 2004.


◎ Aim ➔ To strengthen peace, international and regional security including
cybersecurity and stability, the protection on a collective basis of the

◎ CSTO membership means that member states are barred from joining other

◎ In the CSTO, aggression against one signatory is perceived as aggression against


all.
◎ The Collective Security Council (CSC) is the highest body of the Organization and
consists of heads of the member States.

Vande Bharat Express
Surekha Yadav, Asia’s first woman loco pilot has become the first female to
operate the newly-introduced semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Express train.

● It is an indigenously designed and manufactured
semi high speed, self-propelled train.
● Formerly known as Train 18.
● It is a high-performance, electric multiple-unit
train.
Vande Bharat Express

◎ Operates without a locomotive and are based on a propulsion system called


distributed traction power technology, by which each car of the train set is
powered.
