INTRODUCTION

Islamic education is an ongoing effort to convey knowledge, skills and experience

based on the Quran and al-Sunnah in order to shape attitudes, skills, personalities and views

of life as the servant of Allah who has the responsibility to develop oneself, society,

environment, and country towards achieving goodness in this world and the hereafter. An

educator according to different quotes in Islam, a teacher is a person who shapes the

personality, opens one's mind, and guides him or her towards the right path, in short, a

teacher helps in molding a person's personality as well as character. Teachers are really

important in our life. Teachers are the second parents of students. Besides, teachers play the

most significant role in a student's life. Character building of your children in the light of the

Quran and Hadith from a young age is very important. When a child is young, he or she is the

most impressionable and absorbs knowledge just as how is taught. That’s why teachers have

to play a role in a child’s life after their parents. In addition, a quote from Al-Ghazali said, “A

child is a trust (placed by Allah) in the hands of his parents, and his innocent heart is a

precious element capable of taking impressions.”. Therefore, children is a big

responsibilities that Allah’s sent for us to give them knowledge, education and etc. The

characters of an educators play an important role in children’s life.

1
‘The Characteristics Of The Islamic Professional Early Childhood Educator’

Good Personal Attributes.

Teachers are important people in the formation of a student and students are future
leaders. Therefore, a teacher needs to have a pure personality in order to be able to give a
virtuous generation. The purely personal characteristics that must be applied in a teacher
can be divided into three aspects, namely personal traits, behavior and role models and
professional quality traits.
A good teacher should have good personal traits. Among the good personality traits are
kindness, humour, patience, responsibility, confidence and responsibility. The attitude of
a teacher who is kind and considerate towards his students will be appreciated and liked
by his students. Students will feel happy if a teacher can understand them. Rasulullah
s.a.w said : “And what is the most likely to send people to Paradise? Being conscious of
Allah and good manners” (HR Al-Bukhari).
However, the teacher's humour will bring excitement to the classroom and will be more
approachable to students. A teacher who has this trait will always bring an element of
humour and will make learning more interesting and less boring. Effective teaching will
take place indirectly. Besides, a teacher who has patience is a teacher who can control his
emotions. This teacher is not easily angry or furious in any situation. A teacher who has
high self-patience can avoid unwanted things from happening. Next, the nature of
responsibility in a teacher will encourage the teacher to prepare the tasks entrusted. A
responsible teacher will ensure that the tasks entrusted are carried out perfectly.
Moreover, a teacher who has high self-confidence can help a teacher to take reasonable
action. Most discipline problems that arise in the classroom are due to the teacher's own
lack of confidence. Teachers who have confidence will not feel afraid when they need to
make a decision. Teachers are leaders to students. Therefore, a teacher must inherit the
trait of leadership so that his students obey all the instructions and directions of the
teacher. With this leadership trait, all learning will run effectively and effective.

2
Ability to work in a team.

Early childhood education teachers are part of an educational center where other
qualified profiles work together. In short, they are integrated into a team that is part of the
educational community. All of them shoulder their responsibilities and work in a
coordinated manner to achieve related goals. The early childhood education teacher not
only forms a team with colleagues with whom he shares meetings and projects. It also
creates close relationships with the fathers and mothers of the children who make up the
classroom. Working together is an important aspect in Islam and it has always been
emphasized to work as a team. Working in a team makes sense because it is close to
impossible to survive on one’s own. A lot of good can come out of hanging on together
and helping each other out is times of difficulties. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) also
urged Muslims to work together as team. In one of the Hadiths, he said, “Faith Believers
are to each other as a brick of a wall, supporting and reinforcing each other”.

Parents and teachers have a common goal: to facilitate the best educational experience
possible for students and to help children grow, develop and be happy human beings.
When parents and teachers communicate with one another, they are able to work together
towards this common goal. Teachers must communicate to the parents that they will
communicate with the student’s next teacher and that they will be involved in the
transition. Once the parent or teacher has started the conversation about supporting the
student, the communication moving forward needs to be consistent. The teacher’s
knowledge and understanding of the student would be very useful to the parents as they
work with the student at home. This is why it is important to create strong support
systems for students both at home and at school to increase learning. Positive connections
between parents and teachers have been shown to improve children’s academic
achievement, social competencies and emotional well-being. When parents and teachers
work as partners, children do better in school and at home. In this context, good
relationships that exist between teachers and students can have a direct impact on the
development of the students.

3
Honesty.

The honesty of the teacher leads the students to trust his sayings and lets him win their
respect and lifts his stature up high. The honesty of the teacher is represented in the
necessities of his responsibility, among which comes the truthful transfer of knowledge
including the facts and info to the coming generations. Honesty is defined as saying the
truth without changing it. It means to do what you say and that all your deeds are identical
to all your sayings. Honesty and truthfulness are considered the weapons of the believers
in the battle against falsehood on earth. They are the merits of those who believe in Allah
(SWT) as the only God to be worshipped and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
Honesty always gives strength, reassurance, and self-confidence to the honest person,
unlike the liar who always feels afraid of being disclosed and despised by people when
they find out his/her reality. The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said: “No one testifies that there is no God
but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah—honestly from the heart (sidq
min qalbih)—but that Allah will forbid him from entering Hellfire.”

The Arabic word for honesty is “al Amanah” which means trustworthy. Children are
(Amanah) and bringing them up according to the values of Islam is from honesty. That is
to give people their rights, render back the belongings that are kept with you, and keep
these rights for them. Honesty is when your sayings are identical to your deeds. Honesty
is an essential characteristic that a Muslim must have while doing every small or big deed
because he/she knows that Allah is watching over him/her and counting every single
word he/she utters. Honesty and truthfulness are very connected characteristics, the
honest person must be truthful and vice versa. Honesty also has a wider meaning as it also
implies rendering all rights and debts back to their owners. It is one of the best manners a
Muslim should adhere to. It brings a love of Allah and guarantees love and respect for
people.

4
Accountability

Accountability is defined as “responsibility to someone or for some activity”. When

someone decides to become a teacher, they take on the responsibility to educate a student.
Teachers are ultimately the ones who are accountable for the development and learning
progress of students. According to the beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him),
it is the responsibility of the teacher to ensure fairness in his dealings with students. This
means that the teacher should not discriminate or give preference to one student over
another on the basis of materialistic parameters like their social status.
According to Islamic teachings, teachers are really important in one’s life. From helping
children find the strength to teaching them to overpower demons and conquer fears,
everything is taught by teachers. Not only the Islamic scholars but our beloved Prophet
(Peace be upon him) also clarified the significance of a teacher in one’s life. The role of a
teacher is really significant in Islam. Allah and His Prophets teach us to be obedient and
listen to our teachers in order to be successful in life. If the student is obedient and
respects his or her teachers, Allah assists him in achieving his or her goals. This is the
main reason why we should always respect our teachers and pay attention to what the
teachers say.

Creative

Creativity is important today as it can bring progress and make life better. In
education, the implementation of new, interesting, unique, strange and helpful teaching
and learning environment could then instill in the students the importance of knowledge
acquisition. Nowadays, the process of acquiring knowledge is executed in several ways
such as face-to-face classes, online lectures, virtual lessons, audio-visual courses and
instructional software. It is a fact that listening to lessons when attending classes has
become a tradition of more than a hundred years and represents authoritative exponents of
Islamic orthodoxy. On the other hand, the significance of creativity was acknowledged by
Islam and this is evident from the examples shown by Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.

Creative thinking is the kind of thinking which produces the unusual. The Qur’an
motivates creativity in every verse there is an invitation to examine our surrounding
carefully and reflect on them. Therefore, Allah says of His creativity of the universe:
“…and reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth (and pray), “Our Lord!
You have not created (all of) this without purpose…”

“The Roles Of The Islamic Professional Early Childhood Educator”

Preschool teachers play an important role in building a child’s success in their first years
of school. In Islam, the eminence to teach values, islamic aqidah must be started from early
instilling values of aqidah before the child is taught to akhlak islamic. The parents and
teachers keep the educator at an early age of numerous irregularities. Besides infusing the
values of aqidah, the parents and teachers educators also must able to maintain aqidah
children start at an early age. Teaching religious values in early childhood in terms of Aqidah
allows the need for methods that can interact and socialize children with the needs and
interests of children. Furthermore, teachers influence is seen to be very important in student’s
personal development, especially in the areas of religious education and moral development.

a. Islamic education teachers as motivators.

The teacher as a motivator is a teacher providing stimulus to students, encouraging and
providing stimulation in increasing the spirit of learning. Motivation is a very important
aspect of learning. Without motivation, it is impossible for students to have the will and
enthusiasm to study hard. Therefore, generating motivation is one of the roles and tasks of
educators in each learning process. Giving motivation or stimulation to students will make
students earnest, full of passion and enthusiasm for learning and carrying out school
activities.
The potential of a student cannot be used if there is no stimulation or encouragement.
Therefore, students must be motivated so that creativity or the work they have can be
realized. This is where the role of Islamic education teachers in providing motivation and
stimulus from the religious side is to further increase students' awareness and ability to do
better. Islamic education teachers must always a motivator for students to be more active,
more orderly and more focused in learning so that their dreams dreamed can be achieved.

6
b. Empathy with students.

Empathy means having the ability to understand the needs of others, and being aware of
their feelings and thoughts. The teacher is often likened to the parent. He should feel the same
sense of duty and love that the parent feels. The Prophet Muhammad s.a.w said: ‘I am to you
like the father to his child.’. Empathy enables teachers to feel and understand what the child
is feeling, communicate about the feeling with him/her, and then respond in ways that meet
his/her needs. Therefore, each aspect of empathy plays an important role in guiding
interactions between the teacher and child. Moreover, early educators are highly responsible
for understanding children’s needs and intentions quickly and satisfying these needs. In
recent times. However, it seems that more children may have negative social experiences in
the various contexts in which they live, work and play. According to most researches,
empathy has two distinct types. Affective empathy and Cognitive empathy.

a) Affective empathy - involves the ability of an individual to understand another

person's feelings and emotions and being able to compassionately respond to it.
b) Cognitive Empathy - is the ability of a person to be able to understand the other
person's perspective and comprehending that why the other person has developed it.

Teachers need to better understand emotional needs and how to address them and to do so
with empathy, they need to be able to share experiences and perspectives with the children.
Empathy is an important tool for both teachers and students to learn and grow socially,
intellectually, and emotionally. Fortunately, that teacher who is an empathetic teacher can
cultivate such a mindset in even young students. Make use of these strategies every day for
becoming a more empathetic teacher.

c. Educator as a builder
Teachers must be able to use all opportunities to help the success of community
development. Responsibility in this context a person's emotional ties come from his physical
and psychological responses. Attention is related to the psychological factor (psychological)
of humans in general. Attention also relates to a person's interest in objects based on physical
growth and psychological development. In this case, the attention of a child will be different
from the attention of a teenager, likewise very different from the attention of an adult or
parent. Moreover, the attention of parents to their children depends on how much emotional
ties. As has been explained above that the teacher's role is also as a motivator and facilitator
in addition to being a teacher. There’s a quote from ‘The Art of Teaching’, “A teacher’s
purpose is not to create students in his own image, but to develop students who can create
their own image” -Author unknown .

7
d. Communicator
Early childhood educators communicate with many people throughout the day including
families, children, support staff, administrators and community members. The teachers must
be prepared to communicate with all of these individuals. Staff should feel comfortable
engaging in conversation, sharing ideas, asking questions, seeking advice, and sharing their
experiences and feedback with others. A teacher must interact in a professional manner with
families and your program team. An early childhood educator use their words, tone of voice,
facial expressions and body language to communicate with children. Moreover, a teacher
reflect on the intentional and unintentional messages that you communicate to children
through the words and actions. The teacher must carefully listen to children to determine the
child’s needs and interests. Listening to children, families and co-workers can help them to
communicate effectively. Following are the important principles of effective communication:
1. Soft tone:
Islam underlines the importance of manners and etiquette and one of them is the soft
tune. The Holy Prophet (SAW) has been reported to say: “Allah Almighty is kind, loves
kindness and awards such reward on the basis of kindness which he does not award on the
harshness nor on anything else”
2. Selection of suitable words:
For effective communication, the selection of suitable words, phrases and sentences is
direly important, otherwise, we would not be able to communicate our thoughts and
intentions in an understandable manner. A common proverb “think before you speak”
narrates the significance of the selection of suitable words. In other words, we can say
that there should be a good combination between our thoughts and words.
3. Facial expressions and body languange :
Facial expression display personal emotions and indicate an individual's intentions within
a social situation and, hence, are extremely important for social interaction. They can put
people at ease, build trust, and draw others towards you, or they can offend, confuse, and
undermine what you're trying to convey. Positive body language in a classroom setting
has the ability to motivate, inspire and engage. It can not only give you the confidence
you need to teach but can also reassure your students that you actually know what you're
talking about.

8
e. An educator provides encouragement.
Children experience highs and lows with learning. They feel a sense of self-satisfaction
when they develop a new skill without problems. On other days, though, children can become
discouraged when they have difficulty understanding and perfecting a skill. These are the
days when educators can make a significant difference in the lives of children by patiently
encouraging the children to move beyond the difficult moments. Educators should never lose
patience with any child struggling to learn a skill. Being patient with the children is another
important virtue a teacher must inculcate in the teaching profession. The children of today are
more active and extraordinary in doing and learning things.
In a hadith, Prophet Muhammad s.a.w said that “he who does not show mercy (towards his
children), no mercy would be shown to him” (Sahih Muslim). This hadith showed that we as
human beings including teachers itself need to have patience with others, especially towards
children. In hadith Sahih Al-Bukhari, narrated by Anas r.a himself “I served the Prophet
s.a.w for ten years, and he never said to me, ‘uff’ (a minor harsh word denoting
impatience) and never blamed me by saying, “why did you do so or why did not you do
so?”. A child is bound to argue at times but we as educators need to bear it patiently, whilst
advising and guiding them.

9
CONCLUSION

In conclusion, what is more important than what we teach in education is how we

teach it. Of course, we have to teach good and useful things to people and youth, but this
must be done in effective ways. It is known that the students who do not like a teacher
generally do not like the subject either. A good educator should care about and love his
addressee and he should be genial and positive; in fact, he should devote himself to his
profession and students. According to the Islamic, perspective the role of education in
responding to social issues among student. By highlighting the concept of education in Islam,
our Prophet Muhammad devoted himself to his duty. He had more of the qualities that an
educator should have.
Mu’awiyah ibn Al-Hakam (May Allah be pleased with him) said: “By Allah I have never
seen a better teacher or better teaching before or since; he (the Prophet PBUH) did not
rebuke me, hit me or revile me.” (Muslim 537).
In another narration he (May Allah Be Pleased with him) said : “And I have never seen any
teacher gentler than the Messenger of Allah (PBUH).” (Abu Dawud 931).
These are some of the attributes of Prophet (PBUH) as a teacher. In fact, he is the role model
and an excellent example for us to be followed. As Allah says about him: “There has
certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose
hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often.” (Al-Ahzab 33:21).
He was a greatest leader, warrior, husband, father, a teacher and role model for all mankind,
until the end of time.
