1. 5 values to achieve, Why?

Integrity.

As an educator, it necessitates for me to have high integrity especially on my work

position and responsibilities. It is vital for me to achieve high integrity in order to
ensure that the learners will always listen to me whenever I am dispensing the any
information/ideas. Nevertheless, achieving high integrity is quite difficult to attain
because of our natural imperfections.
However, as educator, I should be more cautious in what I undertake and ensure that
I follow through my commitments to my learners because when learner will notice that
I am not sticking to my words, then the learners will begin to ignore me as their
teacher. Therefore, in order to achieve effective teaching, I should achieve first the
value of High Integrity.

Effectiveness

As an educator, I must be effective in teaching in such a way that I will develop and
improve the learnings of my learners. Despite of any reason that it is really hard to
achieve yet I will do my best to achieve effectiveness because being an effective
teacher will have a greater impact on my students' academic, physical, social,
emotional, and behavioral well-being which necessitates them to become also an
effective professional in the mere future

Truthfulness

It is one of the core values in teachers’ basic task, which involves steering learners in
navigating life and their environment. Honesty with oneself and others and mutual
respect in all communication is a basic aspect of teachers’ work.

Fairness

It is important both when encountering individual learners and groups but also in the
work community. Fairness involves in particular promoting equality and non-
discrimination and avoiding favouritism.

Dignity

It means respect for humanity. As teachers, we must respect every person especially
our learners, regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, gender diversity,
appearance, age, religion, social standing, origin, opinions, abilities and
achievements. I do believe that through deeper respect and understanding to our
learners, we can achieve effective teaching because it will serve as an assurance for
our learners that they are safe from any discrimination and prejudices- if it is achieved
then our learners will be at ease in learning the lessons.

2. 5 values to retain (it means you already have), Why?

Continuous Self-Learning

As an educator, I will instill the value of continuous self-learning because I do believe

that teaching is a continuous learning process. This implies that I would not rely on
my own understanding and thinking yet I will do everything to adapt new learnings
and discoveries that I can share to my learners for enhancing their own knowledge
and skills. It is our responsibility as a teacher to stay updated in order to prepare
student for all the upcoming changes in the society and world. Moreover, teachers
also should be accountable in learning from students as well. Hence, classroom is a
mini-society itself and teacher can also learn a lot of things about different culture and
beliefs in a classroom from students.

Integrity

As a teacher, it necessitates for us to be honest with our job role and responsibility at
all times. Implying that students always follow what teacher does and reflect on them.
As a teacher, I should maintain to be more careful about the things I do and also
make sure on fulfilling my commitments to my learners. In my own standpoint, I must
retain my utmost Integrity because through this we can gain the trust of our learners
which is vital for teaching. On the other hand, once a student finds the teacher not
sticking to his/her words then the student shall also start ignoring the teacher. In
addition, pretending to know everything might not be a good idea for teachers.
Teachers could be doing so to make sure students always follow him/her but should
there be any confusion to teacher himself/herself, he/she should have integrity to
explain the situation. The teacher can tell the student that he/she will get back with
the solution.

Perseverance

Perseverance is a value that I learned and practiced ever since I once a college
student and I do believe that as a teacher I should hold it and instill it to
learners/students. For me, Perseverance is determining to keep on going in the face
of setbacks and challenges. It is that inner drive that keeps us in the game when
everything else says it's time to quit. Perseverance is the staying power to follow
through and exert effort till the end to achieve your goals, dreams and vision. Hence,
it is important to retain the perseverance within me. In addition, teachers bring this
value to the classroom by encouraging students to learn difficult material or even
simply study for a test, as they try to learn as much as they can. In our own
profession, teachers today must persevere in the face of budget cuts that threaten
their jobs and evolving curriculums that may deviate from their preferred practices.

Compassion

As a teacher, I should retain to uphold compassion for others especially to my

learners as a core value. As a teacher, I must also exhibit the compassion that I
always practice and apply it in their daily lives by relating to my learners' educational
abilities and helping to create a curriculum that works for them. Additionally, as a
teacher, compassion drives our work, as we work to ensure that students have
opportunities not previously afforded to them. And we must also encourage our
students to have compassion for one another by teaching them to listen to and value
each other’s' opinions in and outside of the classroom.

Self-Discipline

As a self-disciplined teacher, I do believe that I will bring significant changes to my

affective students. In addition, I do believe that teachers who are able to apply self-
discipline will not be burdened to show orderly behavior naturally and not made up.
This makes the teacher more confident to manage learning activities in the
classroom. In addition, If we have self-discipline we stay focused on reaching our own
unique goals, gives us the gumption to stick with difficult tasks, and allows us to
overcome obstacles and discomfort as you push yourself to new heights. Therefore,
as an educator, self-discipline must be achieved in order to influence and
empowering our learners to become self-disciplined also through self-monitoring of
their own behaviors.

3. 5 values to change, Why?

Procrastination

As a teacher- if something’s to be done must complete the tasks with feeling and
sense of urgency. As a teacher, we don’t just wait or linger as time is valuable and
students invest a lot of time expecting to learn something meaningful and important
and we can’t just procrastinate. This implies that the more we linger, we shall find
ourself with little time in the days to come for our lesson plans, objectives and we
could struggle in meeting academic as well as non-academic goals you set for your
students.

Pessimism / Overthinking

As a teacher, pessimism usually isn't a conscious choice. Some people are

genetically predisposed to be more negative than others. However, pessimism more
often develops as a result of external circumstances, such as a bad breakup, job loss,
injury, illness, or other trauma.

As a teacher, I must always think positively and negate the negative thoughts that I
always think in my work for it will be a great help for me as a teacher. This implies
that when a teacher is optimistic, students feel encouraged and motivated. In
addition, classes can be exciting with teachers pushing their own limits while
encouraging all students to believe in themselves. So, I really need to change these
values of mine since it will be never be helpful for me to be an effective teacher if I
overthink.

Patience

Patience is a virtue. The most important quality that a teacher should possess is
patience yet I am still practicing it. Sometimes I feel annoyed and bored when my
learners ask me an obvious question and also when some students come to school
late. But I realized that it is not healthy for a teacher to be impatient for his/her
students. On the other hand, great teacher must be very patient with their students
and their parents to deal with the same questions and problems over and over again.
Thus, we should never give up easily on our students and would try out new ways to
help them succeed in school.

Self-Esteem

Back when I was in first-year college, I am a type of person who have lack of self-
esteem. I only prefer to be alone rather than being socially connected. I only interact
chosen classmates and friends but when there are any social gatherings, I prefer to
be at home rather than going to the said event.

It was change (in a nice way) when I was recruited to join Bantawang Anihan Dance
Troupe. During my training, I conquered all my weakness with the help of my troupe
mates and subtly gain my self-esteem, and started to believe in my capabilities as a
person. When I was hired as a Provisional Teacher, lot of times that I doubted my
capabilities. But still, as a teacher, we need to be flexible enough so I participated.
Hence, I have to gain full self-esteem because it is a need for us teacher to be more
confident because I believe that a teacher who lacks confidence is less likely to push
students, try new methods, or tackle difficulties. Therefore, changing these values
into a better one can be a great help for us to bring teaching efficacy to our learners.

Active Collaboration
Active collaboration (Teamwork) is particularly important for creating a growth-based
learning environment and for increasing student learning progress. As a teacher, we
should practice teamwork and unity towards our co-teachers, co-workers, as well as
to our learners. On my own situation back when I was an undergraduate student, I
prefer to work alone rather than team.
On the other hand, these values of mine needs to be change because it is better to
work with team rather than of being alone. One example for that is when I conducted
my research/thesis, I was working alone to the extent that I need some helping hand
to assist me or to work with me. It was hard for me to work alone because my
knowledge is only limited however if I have a team, we can deliberate some ways on
how to make our work easy. Therefore, I realized that in teaching we should promote
active collaboration in order to make our task easier- as what the saying stated “No
Man is an Island.”
