EDU-PUROK PROGRAM

“It takes the whole community to educate a child”.

Schools in Hagonoy II District promote alternative solution for academically struggling

learners.

The teachers of Guihing Central Elementary School lead by the School Principal Mrs. Susan
N. Buit initiate in finding unconditional way to reach out learners who need teacher assistance under
the current learning set-up amid Covid-19 pandemic.

The school initiates a community outreach program in this new normal education called Edu-
Purok that aims to help students who are struggling in reading and numeracy and those who are at risk
of dropping out. Edu-Purok or Edukasyon sa Purok under the Project CARE (Compassion, Action,
Responsibility and Environment) of the school provides assistance to identified learners to improve
their literacy and numeracy skills through the use of teacher-made supplementary materials and
individualized instruction specifically, it uses Begin A Society of Avid Readers (BASA)program and
Increasing High Arithmetic Performance (IHAP ) in its implementation which will be conducted in
the purok as the learning shelter.

There will be two (2) teachers who will be assigned in every purok as the purok adoptor
provided that health protocols are strictly observed to be conducted every Monday 9am to 11am. One
teacher is assigned to teach numeracy and another teacher for Literacy/ Reading.

Aside from our goal of teaching them, the teachers bring food packs together with their
teaching paraphernalia every time they visit the houses of the beneficiaries so that they children
are more interested to learn, including the parents to participate in the activity. To sustain the
activity, the school taps stakeholders to help and support the program.

The group believes that this program will give positive impact to the learning of the children
that education must continue amid the pandemic.

This program was conceptualized last year and started its implementation in early
March this year. The program was presented during the Barangay Council Session and it was
supported by the barangay.

Project CARE (Compassion, Action, Responsibility and Environment)

Program Background:

Caring about other human beings is one of the most beautiful capabilities we have
in life. To care is to love.

For several years till now, it has become mandatory to integrate community service
in the curriculum pacing guides of the school to ensure that the teachings of such value filter
into the formal curriculum. Co-curricular activities also expose students and teachers to
various outreach activities the most common of which are gift-giving, calamity relief, clean-
up drives, and feeding programs.

The Program: Project CARE

During the office plans presentation on 6 June 2020, the Project CARE was finally
presented and confirmed by the District Principal In Charge during the 1 st General PTA
assembly. The program title itself derived from the acronym, “Compassion, Action,
Responsibility and Environment”.

Project Care is a comprehensive integrated program that subsumes all of the following:

All initiated programs/projects of the school such as Edu-Purok, BASA, IHAP, Project
STARDOG, Clean and Green, Solar Light Project and Oplan Tabang;
All of the community extension services of GCES;
All of the school’s campaign to engage external stakeholders in development activities.

Future Plans:

It has been observed that while GCES’ Vision is founded on the four core values of Maka-
Diyos,Makabansa,Makatao at Makakalikasan,, bulk of the educational formation of GCES
has been accounted for only by academic excellence. It has been proposed that spirituality
and community service activities be taught across the grade levels and made a requirement
for graduation. This will ensure that these core values are developed and appreciated as true
marks of an GCESians.

With this, we would like to ask permission from your good office to conduct the said project
in all puroks of Barangay Guihing every Monday 9am-11am.There will be two (2) teachers who will
be assigned in every purok as the purok adoptor provided that health protocols are strictly observed.

The group believes that this program will give positive impact to the learning of the children
and we plan to conduct action research about it.

As education advocates, it is my honest belief that you will support the program for the
amelioration of the school children.
