1.0 MOS PURPOSE

The purpose of this Work Method Statement for Block Works


(Concrete Masonry Units) is to outline and describe in detail the
procedure such as setting and lay-out plan on actual location,
erection of scaffolding, mixing of cement mortar,
mounting/laying of blocks and all other related activity. This
activity should be performed with strict compliance and
implementation of Safety Requirements & Procedure and
project specifications to complete the work both for exterior
and interior masonry walls.

2.0 MOS SCOPE

This Work Method Statement refers to various work procedures contained within project
control documents, which explains and covers the Concrete Masonry Work.

3.0 DOCUMENT CONTROL

3.1 This project procedure is a controlled document as required by the Project Policyand
issued in accordance with the contractual requirements.

3.2 Revision of this document will be issued in accordance with the project procedure
andrequirement.

5.0 RESPONSIBILITY

 Project Coordinator / Construction Manager are responsible


for overall management of the job with quality and safety
as per approved shop drawing and method statement.
 Site Engineer to ensure that concerned work force is
familiar with the activity, hazards and mitigated effects of
the situation.
 Surveyor to ensure that all Surveying Work is in accordance to approved data and
recorded well.
 Site Foreman to ensure that the work crew is familiar with the safety requirement of
this activity.
 The safety of all personal, equipment and plant operations
will be the responsibility of the CM in coordination with the
HSE Engineer.

8.0 Mortar and Mixing:

 Using hand mix 1:3, it shall be mix in a clean and water tight
platform. The mortar shall be mixed until dry
 Uniform mix is obtained then water is added and mix
continuously until a homogenous mix is obtained.
 Freshly mix mortar shall be protected at all times to avoid
contamination and prevent excessive evaporation.

8.0 Work Procedure:


 Clean the area on which the blocks shall be installed.
 Surveyor shall mark out the layout for the block work with reference to approved
drawings.
 The first layer of the blocks shall be fully set out with proper alignment.
 All block shall be thoroughly wetted with water before they are laid
and tops of walls left from previous day work shall be similarly wetted
before the new work commences.
 Blocks shall be properly laid on a full bed of mortar. Mortar joint
thickness shall be approximately 5 mm thick maximum
 Block work laying shall be level and true to line. Accurately plumb all
wall faces, angles and features.
 All joint shall be solidly filled and plumb every 900 mm.
 Buildings (Block wall) shall be fixed to the main structure by
galvanizes hooks with a layer of meshes installed on the internal
and external of wall to prevent cracking in the plaster
 Installed blockwork shall be cured for 3 days.
 Clean exposed surfaces of dirt, stains, mortar splashes and other blemishes.

9.0 WORK INSPECTION FOR BLOCK WORK

The inspection requests shall be in accordance with the ITP.

10.0 Health & Safety Management Plan:

Project specific HSE Plan covering all aspects of construction safety, environmental
protection and unity protection has been submitted to the Client for approval. This
plan included:

 A dedicated Health and Safety team will be deployed to the site under the
supervision of a Health and Safety Engineer and Safety Officers. The project
will be controlled as per the approved health and Safety plan.
 It is DAC policy that every employee shall be provided with a healthy and
safe environment in Which to work. To this end, every effort will be made
and positive action taken at all times, by all employees, to ensure healthy and
safe working conditions at all company project work site and facilities
 The general philosophy is each person on site is responsible for safe working practice
 HSE team shall monitor, guide and train all employees to achieve a safe working
environment by implementing Work Rules to Achieve these goals.
 Regular job safety analysis will be done
 Regular awareness programs will be conducted
 Special training programs
 Encourage communication from work force
 Encourage daily reminders by each supervisors
 Weekly surveillance of all rigging equipment and tools, site manpower distribution
 Fire prevention program, identify hazardous areas, material and storage, establish
 Alarms response teams, regular checks on firefighting equipment, fire watcher’s
